Just picked at around 9,000 ft. Boletus edulis. Should really pop over the next couple weeks.

Delicious woody, nutty, earthy. I think it's best to dry them and reconstitute to cook...it really brings out the flavor. They're called porcini in Italian and cepes in French.

Bugs...
j/k... I love Boletus but it's SO hard to find them around here NOT already infested with larvae of some sort of bug, little worms tunneling their way up the stems... ugh... I don't even bother trying much anymore.
Be nice if they could be grown!

No doubt! Luckily, these were a bit smaller and the larvae only beat me to one of them. This is the earliest I've found them iirc. They're often much bigger and you have to trim off the buggy areas. What elevation do collect at?

I think we're at about 700ft here, midcoast Maine. You from colorado? Damn I miss that state, lived there for 20 years!
I imagine with the dry climate there and high elevation, there's not near as many bugs... I never even considered bugs a "problem", in any way, until I moved to Maine. Humidity and heat here make going outside in the summer nearly unbearable... Even the nicest night, you try to hang out outdoors and the mosquitos quickly drive you right back inside, ugh... Not to mention biting flies and relentless ticks. This state sucks compared to Colorado, but the poor folk like myself have mostly been driven out of that state, can't buy a fucking shithouse for $200,000 there anymore

Yeah man, it's getting ridiculous here. You could buy a mansion in most places for what a 3 bedroom goes for here. Montana, here I come! You'd be surprised by the bugs that can pop up here but yeah, nothing like that....We're from Iowa, originally, so I feel ya on th humidity and bugs. Hopefully we'll get back up this weekend for some more hunting!

Oh I know, I fled the state 6 years ago - we had been paying $550/month for an apartment downtown. Now the same apartment I think is going for $1100 IIRC? Even rent is insane! Good luck with the mushroom hunting, and if you like Indian food give the Yak & Yeti a visit for me, best Nepalese/Indian food I've ever had! (gotta go for the buffet though, of course, way best deal).

Yeah just a teeny bit less CO2 would help, but... those look pretty damn good, I'd be happy to buy 'em at a farmers market!

Found this today Macrolepiota procera, even at this size it was just about to open up the veil. Cloned it to agar and we will see how the spore print turns out.

Of coarse, brother. Let me get some tissue to agar and make a security transfer. The security transfer will be slanted, and you can have a piece of that.

About to try to clone some wild woodear if you are interested- it was a little dried out when I harvested them but we'll see. Also- when I get back from vacation I'd love to do a Panellus stipticus grow along with you. That'll be one of my first big projects when I get my steam sterilizer built- trying to hook my best friend's kids on Fungi early
