Beautiful Reishi growing on a small oak.
Gonna take toothpick sample clones of the large conk and the cluster of conks a little lower on the trunk.

Wow, nice work. We're also working with CSH, and our fruits aren't near as big. What is your process like?
Here are some LM from hardwood sawdust with around 10% wheat bran sup.

Oh wow! Only 10% on those Lion's Mane! Those are some great fruits for that level of supplementation- perhaps 20 is overkill?

I have never used CSH before. It's quite expensive where I am, $35 for 50Lb, so I am running trials to see if the yields justify purchasing it.
I usually pasteurize 3.5-4 bales of straw in 11 laundry bags, so I substituted 3 bags with CSH and let them sit for a little longer in the water before bringing it to temp (5h instead of 3h). I had a family emergency and had to leave the house while pasteurizing, so it was at 150f for more like 3 hours, climbing to 165-170f. I usually only pasteurize for 1-1.5 hours once it reaches 150f. I then mixed the CSH and straw at different ratios, and inoculated 45Lb straw logs with 2Lbs of spawn.
Awesome LM! How much do those weigh? I am just starting to grow LM from supplemented sawdust as we speak!

My trade list Looking for strong terrestrial fruiters for an outdoor beds experiment: Agaricus Bitorquis, Agaricus Augustus, Agaricus blazei/subrufescens, Stropharia Rugoso-annulata, Clitocybe Nuda (blewits), and any species or other genus that you think work outdoors. Also, any commercially viable Pleurotus, cold or hot strains. Thanks for the Q&A, trades, and all the posters & teachers that have come before us

Okay this sounds a lot like how we have been preparing the substrate. I shred my straw into laundry bags with this thing.https://www.amazon.com/WORX-Amp-Electric-Leaf-Mulcher/dp/B002MAPZYC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500507193&sr=8-2&keywords=leaf+shredder Then pasteurize in a large feed trough with a 3500w water heater element at the bottom. Takes about 4.5 hrs for it to get up to 160f. Then I simply unplug the element and wait another 90-120 minutes before we drain and unwrap the insulation. The next morning we mix the straw with csh and sprinkle a little gypsum.
In the winter we were doing about 50/50 csh/str, but once the temps started getting warmer we were/are having lots of problems with green trich. So we've cut the CSH back to 25% and Str 75%.
Have you had any problems with the CSH holding too much moisture or contams? Also, what grain is your grain spawn? We are using Oats, and I have a hunch they have been causing some of our contamination issues.
Oh, the LM both weighed about .5lbs.

We've done 20%, but so far have had the best results with 10%. This winter one of our 10% wheat bran batches pushed out 1 pound LM's on the first flush. For us they have been very reliable to fruit year round. Easy to grow...

Not to answer for him, but I'll give my experience - I've soaked a lot of oats (mostly for chicken fodder but I've used them for grain spawn as well, they're great for both). But they don't absorb water very quickly, you have to keep adding it over days. So for mushroom spawn, I do an overnight soak (which doesn't absorb much) followed by a fairly long simmer at low boil. 45 minutes at least. The simmer seems to make them really plump up with moisture, and they don't burst like weaker grains.

@Forrester, have you tried soaking in boiling water, then left to cool. My grains are closer to ready in a few hours vs cold soak.

I use oats! I don't even soak them anymore. I have 2 30 quart pots, I load each with 24 cups of oats, rinse them a few times, add 1/2 cup of instant coffee, 2 tablespoons of gypsum and simmer for around 30 minutes. The only time I have any problems is if I run my spawn too far and it doesn't fully colonize the sub.
On a side note.....I buy straw that is clean and chopped to 1-4", it cuts down major on prep time! https://healthistraw.com/ I use the coarse straw. I've seen that grower used compressed bales before too if you aren't in Canada!
