This is seven days from pin formation, that's quite slow yeah? To be fair this monotub is in my greenhouse and outdoor temps have been in 40s and lower at night and 50-60s during most days. Some days like today there's been clear skies and the greenhouse warms a bit

No that's normal, mine did the same, metabolic rate based on temperature.
Too fast without good support will sadly cause mass aborting.

Evaporation-loss vs uptake rate of water.

I've got pins on my first two (blue) oyster mushroom bags. I've opened the tops up, but am unsure what to do with them now. I probably have to learn for myself the right balance between FAE and humidity, but if anyone could give any pointers I'd be really grateful thanks.

I would turn the bags on their sides to allow the CO2 to leave the bag.  Right now it's just pooling around the block trapped by the bag walls.  You might need to prop up the bag so it remains open once you turn it.  If you live in a naturally humid area you might even get away with just leaving it exposed.  I find that works best when allowed to pin out in the open though.

Thanks Shirak. Should I slash the bags at all or just leave the top (now the side) open? I'm thinking of having them standing up outside during the day with the top open for some nice fresh air, bringing them in and laying them sideways during the night.

my first pins ever.  I'm so proud of my dysfunctional little basket. like a toddler with a crude stick figure drawing who wants mom to put it on the fridge.
Not sure if P. djamor or P. ostreatus because i inoculated the cardboard with both.  just have to see how it turns out i guess

I wouldn't bother slashing the bags.  You don't want to shock them too much since they formed under very humid conditions.  If it's too much of a change they might abort/dry out.  You might want to do the opposite though with regards to outdoors.  Usually humidity drops during the day as the sun warms the air and goes up during the night when temperatures cool off.  I frequently put my grow bags outside during the night uncovered then bring them back in during the day and cover them if it's something like lion's mane that prefers very high humidity.

Wooden toothpicks are great, you can do all sorts with them.
Send samples, make transfers, small storage, so on.

Even germinate spores and transfer.

Alright, also this is from a store bought mushroom and i was hoping to get some spores to start anew. Should i probably leave them longer if i'm wanting sporulation?

I haven't tried harvesting KO spores, I know KO has a low spore load in comparison to other oysters.
