Lately I read a lot about "the passion" and the passioons surrounding it in the public mind and I became curious about the importance of the film. Is it too soon to start categorizing its influence on society? Will it symbolize a cultural change in the society, a symbol of a reeveluation of the importance of religion in the society? Whether the film itself is a brutal mindless action or something more spiritual, it will create a discussion for such questions, already people are divided to those who like it and those who hate it or want to ignore it. And is such a discussion helpful for society, or an ominous sign of future conflicts to come? What do u think of this?
I think that having controversy surrounding religion is a lot more worthwhile than having controversy surface from an exposed breast. As we all know, controversy sparks curiosity. This means that not everyone who goes to see the movie will be devout Christians or other religious types. All this talk about it being too anti-semitic and extremely violent draws in all types of crowds, who would otherwise never even consider reading the Bible or meditation etc. I don't think it will spark any kind of revolution, but it will definitely open up the average person's eyes a bit more.
