Big walk in greenhouse for monotubs
#23960291 - 12/27/16 11:25 AM (7 years, 1 month ago) |

After many reading and alot of questions I think I'm going to put my monos in a walk in green house with a fan on the inside and a ultrasonic humidifier. Im doing this because I live on a small apartment and I have like one and half of a month before the cold weather goes away. So here is the idea, my Ac when put to low temperature the humidity in my apartment gets really low. To 39% , the plan is to attach an small heppa with a pc fan or any small fan ( what could be a good fan for filter? ) So it has clean air. And a fan on the inside for the monos, plus the USH. This idea came up because I want a perfect clean environment for my mushies. Please if you have any recommendations please feel free to help me with this idea.

The monotub already provides more than adequate environment
That'd be like placing a small dome fishbowl in a big aquarium with that same gold fish
How about a room dedicated to tubs?

I have a studio type apartment and no bedrooms. And I feel that my monos are gonna get dry fast because of the dryness when I turn on my ac

Why don't you test it first before building greenhouses in your studio apartment? Dial them in and you'll be fine.

Should i increase the water content of the verm/coco mix?. I have already built it. And I have use it as a clean room for my sab. Avoiding any contaminants in the green room. But I don't have the small hepa or the ultrasonic humidifier. I don't want to risk drying up my mono. I have waited 4 months to do this project. Little by little. I have gathered money working hard, buying the rye because where I live there is no rye and have to order some organic. I want to learn allot from the shroomery and from you guys and I want to some day have monotubs like this picture

And he has a humidifier blowing. I want to make something like that but inside a green house with a hepa. Lowering the risks of contamination.

I don't think a greenhouse and an apartment are compatible.... I guess you never have office personnel tour your place a couple times a month?
Just asking for trouble man.
I live in a apartment an I have to be super-stealth about it for the most part.
Btw I don't know where you got that pic from but last year I saw a bust in texas that looked strikingly similar

No man. I have the keys to my apartment only. And no one suspects. I don't want my whole apartment humid, will it work to have monos inside a greenhouse like I want? With the hepa filter and the humidifier? I just want to know if it will work. I don't want my monos to get contaminated.

Your whole apartment won't be humid lol, winter time my room gets down about 35% humidity full of monos. If you must use a greenhouse just don't use a humidifier and you don't need a hepa filter. If your spawn was clean then the tubs will resist contamination for at least 3 flushes. If your spawn is dirty, you can have as many hepa filters as you want and it won't stop your tubs from contaming

NOTE TO OP
you are trying to grow the mushrooms the way YOU want. dont do that. they only need a monotub.
putting that inside a greenhouse is pointless. its not going to be a cure for contams. having clean inoculate will cure what ails you.
why would your apartment be humid? you are missing the key point. focus.

Before I had gotten the place I use now I was living where I grew.
I found hatch in a closet to a unfinished attic, I built a room up there. Wired the electric and all that. Maybe you have some access to something like that in your studio?
You can also frame out a wall and build a bookcase into it that's on a hinge. If you have the space and don't mind spending a grip of cash the possibilitys are endless.
But just stack tubs...

sure. No need to bump your post for no reason. We know where to find you.
Not too keen on using the green house as a sab, but hey it might work well. My clean room consists of a sab in a room with door shut and fan off. Very little contams, not even worth mentioning.

Its a Greenhouse. If you want to do your SAB work in it that won't hurt but it's not necessary.
I can tell that you are over thinking stuff. Do a monotub. Dial in the bottom holes tight and case it if you are worried about your rooms RH. It's pretty simple stuff, no need to complicate it.

Actually sorry im late to this party. There is a time where i grow all my mono tubs in a green house. You need to take the humidifier out of there. I used it for a cool basement and learned that first that water pooling between lids and floor causes mold everywhere. So take it out. Run a small 10 dallor heater/fan on the lowest setting, then leave the door unzipped and just hanging open, increases the fae a lot. Then mist each tub once a day. Thats all if you really want use the green house. Because you live in apt where its 40 degrees all the time

Morning to all. I was reading this and looks amazing. And I ask myself why if he did it,can' I do the same. Why so many people like it. He hasn't been online for like 3 months , so it will take forever to get a response. He said something about a ultra static filter. Is that a woneywell ? I want to have exactly the setup like he has. But without the heaters. And I think he has the USH besides the Honeywell. https://files.shroomery.org/files/15-002/098115226-003.jpg https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21053320

I'd you want a setup like loafs then go for it. But it's not required for cubes. Be sure to grow some species that it might actually be of some benefit.

yes. i want to gro different species. not just cubes. I have 3 questions
1. What products he has on the picture that i posted, is it a honeywell filter? 2. what could be the best humidifiers on the market for a control environment like the one he has? 3. what on and of timer should i use for the fan/ filter/ cool mist?
this is the best setup that i have seen. If someone can help me find those products, i will greatly appreciated.
if i sound like asking allot of questions i apologize. i know for a fact that mycology , shamanism and agriculture can save my life. now that i'm living with my Gf and got my own apartment, it's so much easier than 3 years before. i want to grow allot of edibles. specially shitake and reishy. in some future morel . i will love to know what he has on that controlled grow room.

OP stop worrying about the rooms humidity.. you should be worried about the surface hydration, whether it's glistening with moisture or not.

Hey guys can you tell me what is the best substrate for monos. I have only done verm/ coco . I have read people use straw/ Hpoo / verm / coco. If I use Hpoo what texture I'm looking for?
My jars are going great. This is the 8 day . Shake or no shake?

I don't know about the best but cvg is the most common. I haven't tried anything else because I only grow cubes and they do well on that sub.

dont shake your jars yet... they require more colonization. They look like their a bit delayed for growth given they are 8 days into coll. The pic isn't the clearest, so its difficult to diagnose any bacterial issue which may or may not be happening.
greenhouses for mono tubs sound like a great idea, but its overkill. The mono tub should have plenty of moisture in the sub to provide the good environment these guys need for fruiting. a dry room isn't terrible.... wicking of moisture from the substrate surface is what facilitates mushroom growth.
You can increase the RH in your fruiting room by placing a few containers full of water in the room (i.e. 5 gallon bucket, solo cups...) the evaporation will help raise the RH.

I check them every day for contaminants. And I nock them with 1 cc. Should I be worried that for 8 days they are going slow?.
And any good tek using Hpoo?
