cleanroom set up

Does any one have their PC's or sterilizers in their cleanroom so they can open and directly place their jars/bags in front of their hood right before you get to work? I've read about people doing this and was wondering if there's any benefit to do this instead of just having them in your kitchen and just putting everything in the cleanroom while u prep it for work. I have two 75x sterilizers that would be pretty cramped in my room.

I doubt your "cleanroom" is much cleaner than your kitchen.

That's what I was thinking the only really "clean" air is directly in the middle of the hood.

I think the only reason, like you said, would be to pop the stopcock in front of the hood so the contents are only exposed to the air from the hood.
If it's too cramped, it's too cramped

I tried running one AA 25x in a bedrooom once, you will need AC as it will heat up the room very quickly.

Hahaha well played blindingleaf. It would be cool to have like a rolling cart the sterilizers were on you cooked in the kitchen and just rolled them into the clean room and wiped um down before you worked. Is it really that much more beneficial to be able to crack the sterilizers right in front of the hood? wouldn't the standard wipe down with rubbing alcohol be just as efficient?

No. A sterilizer does not suck air in when it is cooling. A PC does. It does not matter where you let the sterilizer cool. When you open the sterilizer polluted air gets sucked in. That's why it is better to open it in front of a FH. But it is not neccessary it's just better. Alcohol does not kill mold spores.

I mean if its an extra step that makes a difference I'll definitely do it. I've been having trouble with hidden bacteria in my grains jars after I transfer agar wedges maybe this is another step I could take to help with that. So if you let the sterilizers cool in the cleanroom would you wipe um down with white vinegar or alchohol to get them ready for a flowhood session?

How long do you sterilize your jars? How do you prepare the grain? There are some possibilities where the bacterial contaminations come from. I just PC my bags and let the PC cool in my dirty cellar. I unwrap the bags, spray them with 70% iso, and inoculate them in front of a FH. No problems.

I use bobs red mill organic rye, wash the grain til the water is clear, add gypsum then soak for 12 hours in warm water. I simmer for about 30 min to get it up to boiling for a few minutes then strain. I let it dry til I can run my the hand through the grain and most of the moisture is dried off the surface then load up my jars. I then PC for 2 hours. I rarely ever have outright visible contamination its usually that the jar looks like it colonized just fine but when I go to shake it up the smell is off. the tops of the grain wont fully colonize at times. I've been experimenting with leaving the grain a bit more wet to see if it helps. I live in a drier climate so I think that probably has something to do with the tops drying out.
