80% Humidity

I have had my cakes in my SGFC for just a few days now and I'm having trouble keeping my RH up to 90% or higher. I mist often and see the RH rise to about 90% but then soon drop back down to about 80% is this going to be an issue, will 80% work? I have my SGFC in a small laundry room about 7'x7' the SGFC is off the floor and on a shelf that gets air on all sides, the back side has the most air flow restriction as it is 2 inches from wall. I know I could get a humidifier to help but if its not necessary I would like to avoid it to save some money.

That should be good enough, i've grown them at 80% before. What might happen is your first flush will be great, but you may not get a second or third flush or if you do get a second or third flush they will be few in number or small because of drying out.

Cool thanks. I will still try to get the RH up to 90% or higher. I will also make sure I give them a full 24 hour dunk between flushes to rehydrate good. I will take a look at the local thrift store to see if I can find a cheap used humidifier. Would it be sufficient enough to just put the humidifier in the from with them or does it need to be a small one and placed in the SGFC with the lid shut over it?

Natural variance from 60%-90% will happen on its own, and is an ideal humidity level for the interior of the chamber. When the rh is too high, moisture can't evaporate from the cakes. Because evaporation is a major pinning trigger, it can prevent the cakes from pinning.

Yup, you don't want or need constant high RH, best to stop trying to measure it at all and trust in the proven design. All hygrometers are good for is making you think you have a problem when you don't, besides that they usually aren't accurate and even if they were it still wouldn't do you any good. RH of the microclimate on the surface of the cakes matters most and can't be measured. Look at your cakes, must until glistening repeat when not. Your cakes won't dry out if you mist them as needed.

Should only be 90 or higher less than an inch from the surface. otherwise 50-80 in the chamber itself. If you have a hygrometer in your SGFC you didn't follow directions
