Mycelium dont have immune systems like us. They dont adapt to fight certain pathogens like our bodies can. Its really all about colonization time and mushrooms cant outrun most/all contams.

pins. I should mention, I dont use a liner in my tubs so often ill see side pins a day or so before pins up top.

But yeah 7 days to colonize the tub(usually have knots by then) then I flip it to fruit and see pins a few days later(3-5 days)

The fact that it took 41 days to colonize makes me doubtful that good things will happen with this tub.  In my experience any time my jars take that long to colonize I get bacteria.  Often the grain will look fully colonized but if I squish a grain between my fingers the inside will mush out and be gooey and bacterial.  The tub may still colonize but contamination is inevitable.  At least in my experience this is how it works for me.

How does the tub smell?

I guess I was more thinking along the lines of (un)natural selection. Not so much that they would have immune responses, but more that the strains that were better at overrunning bacteria would naturally express themselves more strongly in a grow begun from bacterial spawn. I suppose it's not so much, "Would myc be made weaker by not exposing it to contamination?", but rather, "Could stronger myc be encouraged when grown in the presence of bacteria?" We can't say whether the strain would be particularly good at fruiting or produce high levels of actives, but we could suppose that it was at least good at growing in the presence of contamination.

It is plausible.  It's not entirely true to say they don't have an immune system.  I have seen mycelium grow over-top and apparently kill or inhibit growth of bacterial splotches on agar plates.  So the mycelium has something that is suppressing bacteria.  If you cloned from a bacterial grow then there's a chance that you'd be selecting genes that were better at actively suppressing bacteria.

It's probably better to just select for fast growth though because colonizing before bacteria get a chance is the best option.

The most contam resistant will be the fastest growing. Its all a race for nutrients, the metabolites that the mycelium excrete slow down competing microorganisms so the mycelium can consume the nutrients before contams can.

The question stands though. Would a clone taken from a bacterial jar that overran the bacteria be any more contams resistant? (Obviously the goal is clean spawn. This is just an interesting question.)

Yes! I got real busy yesterday, so I really appreciate you furthering my question!
Merry Christmas!

If you only use half brick of coir you should only use 1 quart of Verm and only 2,25qts of water.

How much water did you use?

With this recipe you should have taken 2,75qts of water because 1 quart of verm need 0,5qts of water approximately.

Hey! Thanks for the info, and sorry for getting back so late. I pasteurized my sub in a pillow case in a big pot of boiling water &I then squeezed to field capacity so idk how much water was actually used.

I'll check on the smell asap which will probably be tomorrow morning tho.

For shits & gigs here was the 41 day quart jar that I used(this picture was taken on day:30):

I'm confused by all of these comments. When bacteria is present, whatever mushroom you cloned wouldn't be resistant to anything considering when bacteria IS PRESENT they try to fruit as quick as possible only to complete their natural life cycle, they aren't secretly building any immunities just living and dying ASAP before bacteria gets to them...??

No they are not building any immunity

Right? Plus, when bacteria is present and they complete their cycle all the more quicker that'd honestly kinda mean they wouldn't be up to par with others considering they'd have the time to grow completely as their cycle originally wanted?

Hi guys,

How does the most recent pic of the sub look to ya'll? Is there anything in the sub that makes you do a double-take (as in, the sub looks questionable)?
