family xmas party avoidance * 1
    #23953843 - 12/24/16 10:18 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

i was supposed to be @ my families xmas party today but i called my GM and told her i had the flu which im pretty sure she knows is a  crock of shit..

why should i go?

my family doesnt seem like they like me all that much

my cousins are snobs and i have absolutley nothing to say to them

"so...uh...hows work going?"

"whats your babies name again?"

"oh this is your wife?nice to finally be formally introduced 3 years after you guys have been married"

its boring too..no soda,no beer,no music,just warm bottled water

the house is small so were all packed in like sardines

last year i just kicked it outside in the cold and smoked cigs and i dont even smoke cigs..i just did that to get out of the akwardness..

i feel kinda bad about it but im sure everyone will be more comfortable w/o me since im gonna be tense the whole time

im sure most of you guys are actually looking forward to family time

It is okay too skip I remember skipping thanksgiving not this year but the year before. It reminds you of what you missed I hated it and it made this year so much better, We all need time for yourself though if you dont feel like it don't go, but you will be missed and people do like your presence there even if it doesn't feel like it. Life is about doing things you dont enjoy but find out they are not so bad. Which ever your choice your family will love and respect you but I know how it feels too feel so awkward no one blames you for not going.  :goodluck:

I used to hate going to Christmas gatherings with extended family. I have nothing in common with my cousins, don't like my uncles and aunts.

I like Christmas now because I don't have to go there anymore. It's just family dinner with my parents and siblings and Oma and Opa from my dad's side.

if you're not going to your family's party, why are you calling out of work?  wouldn't that be more reason to go to work, if you're not attending the party?

i feel ya, though.  i'm not thrilled about being where i am/with who i am for christmas.  nor do i generally partake in holidays

Hey never said he had to call out of work or that he was calling out of work.

GM = Grandma in this post

GM doesn't equal General Manager in this post

HAHA no problem man.

Don't worry I had to read it a second time. I've never seen that either. I read it as General Manager the first time and got to the middle of the post and was like wait that doesn't make any sense. "ohhhhhh his grandma"

This is why people's habit of making up acronyms and short-speak on the fly is retarded. It saved 2 seconds of typing for 15 minutes of confusion and explanation. Don't be retarded, kids. Use your words.

I also am avoiding a family Xmas, I am just not big on the holidays at all.

Going to see my grandma today at least who I have been meaning to meet up with for awhile.

I feel bad about not staying on top of my family relations but I have always been the black sheep of sorts and like half my family is pretty dysfunctional. My mom and grandma are estranged. My dad is a crazy ultra marathon runner who is CO sta tly arguing with my step-mom when I am around.

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Yeah im in a similar spot but cant go anywhere so im with the family

Just sort of staying low and keeping peace... Ive been depressed for awhile now so I feel indifferent towards the holiday right now but am trying to show some effort

Well good on you for at least trying

I suppose my bit of holiday effort is seeing my grandma for the first time in awhile.
