Wild Mycelium Cultivation
    #23952896 - 12/23/16 09:42 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Hey all,

Mycelium isn't all the same.

Different types of oyster mushrooms have mycelium with different strength, different looks, some even producing a yellow liquid that kills nematodes.

My question is: How do you think I should best go about growing non-traditional mushroom mycelium? (ie. non-edible, non-psychoactive) to discover the different looks, strengths, speed of growth and properties of it. I have no care to fruit the mycelium, only to measure its characteristics.

Specimens would be mycelium samples found in the forest of the pacific northeast.

Agar. This is not advanced mycology.

Post-agar would it make sense to spawn to a grain or would that be a waste of time given the likelihood of the strain being some sort of wood-eater.

All the things you want to study can be done on various agar receipts. I don't see much reason to bother with spawning to grain.

I don't understand, you don't know what you're growing? If you're getting it from the wild you should know what it's growing on.
