I honestly have no clue why it puffed up and bruised so bad. This cake is in its own growth chamber because it looked off and I messed up the substrate. It looked way starchy and like it had melted. I let in consolidate, dunked it and rolled. Put it in this FC and it immediately puffed up and turned blue, but it never really dried out at all. It's a weird cake.

I see
It's true that stumps don't pin, but they do tend to rot don't they? Well most of the time.
I haven't ever cut shrooms anyways lol, just too much work for me

Yeah stumps can pin. I've never seen them rot unless the sub was already contaminated. Twist and pull works when the fruits aren't attached to deeply to the substrate but when they are really anchored in, twist and pull rips the hell out of your substrate.

Cutting is faster than twist and pull IME. With big scissors it goes really fast. In the past I always used the twist and pull method. I had great success with it too. But if you have a really nice pinset on a mono it's a PITA to twist and pull.
Anyway: Use the method you like! Everyone has his own preferences. If twist & pull works for you, there is no reason to change your harvest method.

I have a question about these... so this is my first grow, it's PE. I'm happy to finally have fruits, this has been an extremely trying process. The oldest fruits are at 10 days today (there's only a couple) and the caps are getting relatively soft and curling, however, I'm not seeing the bumpy stipe that PE is supposed to get once matured and ready for harvest. Any idea why this is happening? Should I harvest the ones that are shriveling and such?

Is it me or does that substrate look really dry looks like there's spots where it's cracking.

Those were ready a while ago. PE doesn't always get bumpy. I tend to look more at the colour of the capp. Once thry lighten up, it's time to harvest.

I just tossed a tub where the stumps were hit by a green mold (not Trich) during the end of the second flush. This was in a particularly low FAE environment with both top holes wide open @60% RH in the room & sitting on a dusty floor. Shit happens, I'll keep cutting.
Use embroidery scissors for easy harvesting.

I twist and pull, I've tried both cutting and twist and pull. And in my experience leaving stumps by cutting led to contams sooner and more often than twist and pull.

If I remember correctly, mycelium can be as thin as one-cell thin, right? So do you think it's possible we are not even seeing the true-ends and not seeing the most accurate picture in terms of how mycelium progresses/regresses or interlinks/creates anastomoses? Or is the microscope strong enough to differentiate single cells?
Not to be pedantic, but it depends on the size of a cell and the power of the magnification. Not knowing the exact details of the biological nature of fungal cells I can't say for certain there are no individual cells pictured in this gif, but very probably not. As you said, this particular 'scope is not strong enough to resolve that closely or with enough clarity.
And, just cuz I'm here posting, here's preview of the next timelapse cookin:

Thanks too! I missed the current window and have nothing at spore stage, after all the holiday hubbub is sorted I'll get more on (and I need to bother to put something in a substrate already - busy holidays + I'm lazy) however I do have a snapshot from a week or so ago:

Also, here is another stage of the agar pin, before it began to bend in an unphotogenic direction:

And here the next upcoming view, though I'm worried the condensation will be a problem because I had to pull the camera back much further so that it doesn't touch the plate anymore and yadda yadda condensation gonna block it cuz no heat:

and lmao munch thx too!
-------------------- Have fun on harvest day!

I'm sure its on the dry side by now, but the crack came about from moving the tub when I first spawned it. I hit the shelf wrong or something and part of the tub gave

Whoops... well I just harvested the larger ones with the lighter caps. Thanks for the advice. I knew there was a 7-10 day window and it seemed like it was getting a little long in the tooth.

Cool. I've got some reishi soaking right now too. I took it everyday for a year and definitely noticed a difference in how I felt. I can't wait to get back on this shit.
