as far as a boot that falls apart quick, stay away from "Georgia" brand, which is a line of cheap boots manufactured by Rocky
there are soooooo many bad boots out there. my biggest thing is to never buy glued on soles, always stitched

Ok heres a stupid question that fits the topic
I find it very hard to walk in high-top boots because my natural walking motion is very heel-toe. Is that true of everyone? Like, does everyone walk a little differently in a high-top boot? I kinda feel stupid asking

I,ve only worn high cut boots when doing long distance hikes with a heavy pack,it definetly makes u more aware of your gait when u wear heavy hiking boots

Its not even just the clunkiness, like I find myself almost marching in a way. I have concerns that dozens of hours of walking over the course of a weekend may have ill effects on my feet if I can't walk normally. Is it something i'll just like get used to? Or am I abnormal?

There may be some discomfort if its a new thing ,the area where the shin meets the top of foot can get painful, plus the extra height of the heavier sole,a padded sock is a must as well, merino wool

get a boot with a high-arch and it won't be an issue

having a thick insole (insert) will help, for one. wearing a nice thick pair of wool socks + a thin layer (like a dress-sock) over the wool sock will reduce the amount of friction between the foot, the main wool-sock, and the boot

I've just accepted I'm going to have to wear inserts for the rest of my life for my flat feet. Makes my feet the most expensive, pampered part of my body by a long shot, but i'd rather have knees with im 40

custom-fit boots
whites or nicks
top quality, well made, made in USA, rebuildable, etc......
it can take 2-6 weeks to get the boot made and delivered, but it's better than trying to break a pair in that, in essence, won't ever break-in properly
edit: as far as inserts go, one should ALWAYS have at least a thin insert in a boot. currently, i'm using Superfeet Heritage (Orange) insoles, medium thickness, which is ~1.5" at the sole and tapers down to the arch. they have thicker and thinner models. the prices on their website seem way high ($50 for the model i use), but i don't think i paid over $30 for mine in-store

LOWA Argon GTX hiking shoes
I weigh 360lbs/160kg, so for me every single step I take counts, for my knees, for my joints, for my supportive tissues.
If every step counts for you, LOWA Argon GTX are a VERY good shoe, they're a phenomenon in the hiking and runners world. The shoes ccost 120 bucks here but I literally got 2 pairs for the price of 1 shoe, 60 bucks, because I was lucky and caught a clearance sale.
They have a good spring-effect in them even at my weight, and the sides of the shoe are semi rigid forcing good foot posture.
Good stuff and yes, GTX = Goretex.

That is a nice shoe Asante-
I settled on the Neutron by Asolo
- Gore-Tex® waterproof breathable membrane offers excellent weather protection
- High-tenacity nylon and suede upper with protective rubber rand resists abrasion
- Gusseted tongue keeps out dirt and debris
- Moisture-wicking mesh collar
- Padded collar and tongue
- Lite 2 anatomic footbed for superior comfort
- Asoflex lasting board for support
- Vibram® Radiant rubber/EVA outsole provides excellent grip and shock absorption
- Limit 6 per year
- Made in Romania
I got what I think was a pretty good deal Came out to about 120.00 but originally priced nearly twice that.
I hope they treat me well.

I really like my Brooks Cascadia 10s for most hiking. They make the 11s now. It's not a boot and wouldn't be my choice for a long backpacking thru-hike but for most trails it's been excellent and comfortable to me. They're also pretty lightweight which is nice if you're looking to lighten the load, which is a neverending battle itself.

Are you looking for a pair of shitkickers for hiking, or like half mudboot, ankle protection or not etc.. I could recommend a few. Are you gonna be walking through some water, do you need more grip for mossy or slick logs? I guess what kind of terrains do you typically traverse? For how long?
What are the biggest problems with your feet? Where do you get sore, or where do you get blisters, where does your footwear typically wear out first?
If you're buying REI which I don't recommend, or North Face boots (they can't even make a good coat).. but if you do go REI, sign up for their yearly thing ASAP, because Jan 1st they give 50% off one item to members.
Don't skimp on hiking socks either. They're usually the biggest comfort problem and people don't normally realize this.
