After jars are fully colonized wait about 5-7 days and then they are ready

No need to consolidate grain. Best to spawn it within a couple days of all visible grains appearing colonized. I would say give these jars another day or two and then go, just because I see a few grains still finishing up.

I was wondering about that  To my recollection consolidation time is given when spawning to bulk

Hmm, I was wondering about the uncolonized grains myself but wanted to ask either way as some growers here spawn at 90% with success.

*sigh* More patience :pipesmoke:

Consolidation is mainly for BRF cakes. You can consolidate your bulk substrate too, and that used to be commonly advised in the past, but it seems like more and more people are moving away from that these days. So I think you're fine either way there.

Never spawn grains that are less than 100% colonized. If you see any grain in there that's not colonized, do not spawn the jar. G2G is fine at under 100% colonization, but not spawning. Putting sterile, uncolonized grains into a non-sterile environment like a bulk substrate is a recipe for contamination.

You're really close and your jars look fine to me. I'd feel fine spawning those as soon as no uncolonized grains are visible.

*Update*

These are what the jars are at since my post. It doesn't look like they have made any good progress, it looks about the same to me. I am spawning these just to straight verm, low contam rate that way, that is just a thought. Pictures are from this morning

They look pretty much colonized to me, the last pic looks like they could go longer but they definitely have myc on them just very thin. Give a couple more days, maybe bump the heat up a tad. But when you spawn them, that myc that's on those grains will colonize fast enough not to worry about anything else having a chance

I've upped the heating to 25C which I think is 77F as I had the same thought that maybe they need a little bit more heat to colonize faster

its been 30days colonizing, no idea why it's taking so long and these were the fastest colonizers from a bunch of MS grows

Yeah I think I am going to be doing that today

doesn't look like they will be moving much more than this and I'll be spawning them to straight up verm

I've had jars look like that before and they worked just fine. It's like once they get spawned into a different environment they take off pretty quick. I'll guarantee you spawn those and those grains will colonize quicker than shit

Straight verm? May I ask why? I don't think straight verm will hold enough water to support decent flushes. You've got nice clean jars, I don't think you want to half ass the sub man. I think you might regret that decision bro

I decided on that sub type because I have no other choice

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. This isn't my preferred method, CVG is a lot better, and what's even better is with manure but.....

I literally don't even have 7euros to my name atm to buy some coir..... not my proudest moment and I'm in a place in my life right now where the bottom of the barrel is starting to become my new home  I'm looking into jobs, have been for a while so hopefully something pops up soon

I have gypsum, I have verm, I have suppliers for free field aged horse/cow manure, I have no money to buy coir

I've tried straight up verm before, picture on my sig to your right is spawned to straight up verm, I was trying out the REZ-Effect, gave a good 2-3 flushes before contaminating on my ass

so here goes nothing
