UPDATE-First Flush-White Fluffy Christmas-first spongi block and mono. Pins!
#23949469 - 12/22/16 03:27 PM (7 years, 1 month ago) |
|
|
Ok I'm on mono number two. This one is looking a lot better than the first one.
My last mono got what looked like wet bubble butt disease
It has been 10 days since I made this. I decided to put it into fruiting on about day 3 or 4 after hearing that fruiting right away is actually a thing people do. Some opinions are it is faster.
I think it looks pretty good so far. And I may even have knots? Maybe some pins for Christmas?
Damn I'm so excited! Hope it goes well. I have been at this hard for 3 months and have had massive failures. Unfortunately for me that is how I learn best.

And no, it is not a SGFC mono tub. The tub was going to be a SGFC so I drew the dots but never drilled
Can anyone tell me if they see knots? I'm still not sure how to identify

I usually wait until my monotub is fully colonize before putting it in fruiting but I may be wrong because I am not a TC

Don't think it is as black and white as right vs wrong. But I have heard mixed opinions
I will admit the more common practice seems to be waiting until full colonization but I have heard from seasoned vets that they fruit right away.

Fruiting conditions at spawning is fine. A lot of people do it both ways. I think I see knots but hard to say from these pics. Could be bacterial, I only say that because its not fully colonized. Just my 2 cents, could be wrong.

Ok maybe this pic better illustrates what I assume to be knots.

Also sub looks to be about 99% colonized. On the spots that look bare, if I were to just dust off the top you can see the colonization. My be 2 millimeters below the surface. It's right there

Quit messing with it. Some of my best tubs I have had I initiated fruiting conditions at spawning (minus the light until knots show up) and didn't even open the lid until harvest.

Over-misting is causing it to turn yellow? Sorry, just want to have it clarified for my own personal knowledge.

So I am away on business and my wife is looking after the tubs. I have a SGFC right next to the mono. She has misunderstood my instructions anemia misting both tubs
Thanks for catching that Kenetic otherwise I probably would have never thought to ask her.
Should I have her leave the top off for several hours today to try and lose excess water?

All I know is that the only time my mono changes colors like that it is because I'm misting too much or too close. In fact, I dont mist at all first flush until the sub starts rapidly shrinking away from the side. Drying will cause yellowing too but the suface structure changes differently as well. This is anectodal but consistent with my observations.

Quite the smurf village! I wonder if they come out to play when the light is off?

Can anyone help me ID the shrooms on the spongi block? They could either be PF Classic, Puerto Rican, PESH or Orissa. I threw the myco bag out with the label on it and forgot to mark it when I put it in the SGFC

I don't know what the spongi block is but they don't look happy at all. They are aborting apparently and it looks really dry.

Yeppp I can't complain. So, 259.2 grams dried down to 18.7 grams. I harvested all the first flush aborts and last couple mushies this morning. So, total wet first flush was 310.3 grams!

Welp, Happy New Year. My smurf village has evolved.
These are supposed to be Malabar. I thought the veils were supposed to stay intact?
Also is it common for a mono to grow so unevenly on one side?
Anyways, almost time to harvest?
