Fodder I confess I worry peeps think I'm blowing them off when the power goes out here. Now in summer our quaint little surf town can't handle all the vacationers turning on the A/C so we lose power for a day or so. Especially like Friday afternoon till sunday...

We have three types here it’s so horrible. I couldn’t believe how fast they run either. When I first moved in the house was pretty infested, I’d never seen them before. I made a trap from a Gatorade bottle where you cut the top off and put it in upside down like a funnel. The next morning the entire bottle was full.
Idk why but my old dog absolutely loves them. If she sees one running she’ll catch up to it and barrel roll onto it, even dead ones she remembers where they are and rolls on them when she walks by.
Luckily between some heavy pesticide and my neighbors cat they’re mostly gone. These people moved in next door with the only friendly Siamese I’ve ever seen and he likes to hang out in my garage for some reason.
Dude I haven’t cleaned my SAB either, I’m about to deep clean the whole place though. At first it was just more mold on plates but now half my tubs have this dark green/grey powdery mold growing all over the aborts.

So I made it 8 months without cleaning my SAB. Yesterday I experienced trich for the first time!
Only took about 3 years to catch me.
Guess this weekend I'm gonna deep clean.

That’s gotta be pretty rough if you’re used to the city. At least it’s on the way out, between how cheap and efficient solar panels are getting and the global WiFi projects things should change quickly.
Honestly solars good enough for me right now. For like 300 dollars at Walmart I could rig up more than I’d need. Once there’s global internet I’m probably gonna go live in a van or out in the middle of nowhere.

Can confirm, am in the middle of nowhere, using solar. Which is why there's no flowhood in my future.

So i just found some bread wheat growing in my backyard. I threshed it and hulled the berries.
I was hoping to compare it to bought berries, but all I ended up with was.

So yeah I spent an hour shredding my hands for a few lousy berries...

A free master jar for g2g!
Did you do the old trick I think Indians used to, where you just rub and crunch it all together and then slowly sprinkle handfuls of it so the wind blows the chaff and stuff away and the grains land in a clean pile?
No idea why I remember random shit like this from childhood.

No like an idiot I separated the wheat from the straw. Collected the straw and just rubbed it in my hands till I got most of the paper separated out.
I just planted more wheat and some WBS...Trying to get free grain!
Can't decide if I should do a teeny tiny grow with my berries, or mix it with WBS.
I don't see any harm in mastering the wheat and then g2g to WBS? Or is it not advisable to go from G2G with differing grains.

Had two great screw-ups today:
I botched my G2G transfer a few weeks ago and contaminated all 10 jars with black mold. I was cagey about disposing of them, since black mold does nasty things to the respiratory system. Then, while trashing them, I thought to myself: "I should know what black mold smells like, for future sniff tests."
I wish I could say I didn't stick my nose into a jar full of black mold. I really do.
Secondly, I finally re-read the guide to setting up a monotub and realized that my shrooms have been tiny and skinny because my air exchange was embarrassingly low. Only four hours after multiplying the area of my air exchange holes by about eight and adding a light on a timer to the terrarium, my caps have already doubled in size. Excited to check back on them tomorrow morning to see how they're doing.

I confess I recently squirted MS syringe straight into grain.
In my defense though, it is a last ditch effort to get some growth from this nasty ass syringe, as I keep getting nothing but bacteria on agar(will transfer back to agar if I get growth.)

lol growing your own cult grain. Mixing is fine that’s what wbs is, and a lot of people use millet for masters.
So what does black mold smell like?? Let us learn from your respiratory sacrifice

Closest description I can give is "nothing" - can't tell if that's because I was too hesitant to jam my nose in there or because black mold's smell cancels out the 'fresh mushrooms' smell of healthy mycelium.
Or because it fried my nostrils on contact. Who's to say.

they are usually already sterile when you get them, but I recommend you buy pre-made petri's or but some glad rounds and then make your own.

I confess that I wish summer was over. All my SAB sessions have to be done later at night or earlier in the morning because my house gets too damn hot with the AC off during the middle of the day.
