Well I just fucked up in front of the flowhood. I was just doing transfers and needed to pull some parafilm strips out and pulled the whole damn box down nearly landing on top of plates.. I caught it luckily but I kinda smashed into the filter and fucked up some fins.
You can hardly tell from the pic because I already bent the fins back into place (almost) but you can still kinda see the filter material looks like it creased a little bit. Now I'm kinda worried about pinholes or something. IDK tho, it looks ok to me.

Lesson learned: Don't keep shit on top near the face of the flowhood, especially dont pull it the fuck down if you do.

I PC'ed the plastic petri dishes the first time I got them. That was quite a surprise what came out - a nice chunk of plastic.

Made some no-pour agar plates last week, was gonna do some agar to agar transfers and maybe a few spores on them today.
Went to take the foil off of them and get them ready and realized the lids had actually popped off of some of them and most were contaminated. I put too small of holes in the lids and covered with too much micropore tape and some either blew their lids off when sterilizing or sucked their lids in when they cooled down. Had to throw out about half of the lids since they were warped. Guess I've got a bunch of deli dish bottoms for actual food now.
Cooking up new set of agar now, this time with bigger pressure equalization holes

Just had my first experience with trichoderma. Took out 5 of 6 tubs and I'm just waiting for the 6th to show at this point. It's pinning, so maybe 1 flush but I'm not hopeful.

Have you noticed a difference in yield?
I confess I am becoming impatient with some tamp spores on agar. It's been 15 days and no signs of growth. The age of the print is unknown so I'm going to swipe some more tonight.

yield has been consistent if not higher . I can get more moisture for a flush without over-hydrating the sub. the myc can move nutrients and water to wherever its needed so the sub might feel like its on the dry side when you go to spawn but everything the myc needs for a fat flush is in there still. its kinda like a buffer for moisture cause overly wet sub makes tiny fruits every time a good portion of this extra sub goes towards an extra thick toplayer which is also a nice buffer from evaporation from the rest of the sub and helps keep good surface conditions without too much maintenance.

Yeah, I started using smaller grain bags after your PC efficiency thread and its working out great. Can get 6 bags into the Presto and 14 into the 75x. And like you said, there is more available water for the flushes. Am getting great 2nd flushes without any additional hydrating.

I’m with you guys. I use one quart of spawn and at least three of coir per shoebox and don’t have to hydrate until after two good flushes.

I've got work to do and I can't because of a big cricket. It's a narrow opening walking into my makeshift lab and I have an extreme fear of pretty much all bugs and this big fucker is just chilling on the wall looking like it's ready to jump on me as soon as I walk by. I've got a vacuum hose and I kind of want to go in there and suck it off the wall but the fucker looks too big, I think he's going to jump on me.

(Looks small in the pictures but it's about the size of my thumb)
It's been about 30 minutes now and I've just been watching him while I drink my coffee, plotting.
... broom stick + grocery sack + vacuum = problem solved!
Transfer time! Ive got galindoi RW and PE6 cultures to transfer.

I confess I used to live in New Orleans and had to deal with flying cockroaches.

Fuck that!
So weird you said that, I’ve lived here for almost ten years and just saw one fly for the first time last week. It didn’t so much fly as run up the wall and then jump off making a sound like somebody riffling a deck of cards while it glided down to the floor.

herewith I confess:
two bags. I inoculated them with MS. I watched them overgrow some mold. I did not throw them away. I put them in my closet, next to my socks. I just watched them. It took three months for them to fully colonize. I spawned them to straight worm casting (3:1). Finally I harvested monsters... hollow dark caped monsters. I ate them. I ate them all (I haven't quite yet but I like the sound of it).
I also confess that I have a recurrent dream of sleeping in a mono tub and crushing pins.
