Confession: I rarely bother to wash or change the white towel I use under the SAB, just soak it in the shower and ring it up before sessions and then I hang it up outside to dry when I'm done.
It has all sorts of stains and funky stuff on it; spore marks, food color from the agar and even grains sometimes.
It's my 'lucky' towel and I'm a lazy dirty asshole.

I absolutely LOVE this thread, been jerking all over it for weeks...
I confess I don't use a towel. Nor a rack. Sometimes I'll just put my receiving plates on the floor of the SAB to do transfers.
I don't know the smell of lysol, but bleach gets me high as fuck. Not your everyday weed high, but the high were you are all high up in your head, walking around the house while not seeing what you're actually doing, just doing agar and spawning grains all over my headspace without anyone ever knowing it... I often think people must assume I'm a manic-depressed germophobe. One day I smell like 10 construction workers, next day it's bleach a mile away

I find myself throwing fascinating facts about mushrooms into non-mushroom-cultivator conversations. Then have to explain it in the context of my oyster mushroom grows for opening my big mouth...

It is fun! Thank you everyone for contributing and sharing your quirky and dirty myco secrets! I think I'm going to do a myco confession theme week with a contest when we hit 100 pages.

Just remember noobs who read this - what an experienced cultivator can get away with playing the odds, should not be confused with good sterile technique with higher odds of success...

Well said. I get nervous so, gloves and spray are a must for me. ISO can fuck right off tho. Save that for making oil.

Forgot that part. I'm not suggesting this to anyone just for the record, just saying it is not a dealbreaker. Plus I think its funny that everyone sprays shit....
There are no odds to play with though, I literally have a 100% success rate. Technique ftw

yeah, it took me a while to realize that it wasn't that my hands needed cleaning with ISO to do agar, but rather that iso was somewhat useful for sloppy hand movements, so basically ISO, bleach and lysol are like the number of that cheap hooker in your phone, because your courtshipping still needs practice..
I get nervous too, ISO helps comfort my mind, and gloves are needed because my hands are always ridden with slits n patches of rough, broken skin. Psoriasis+ISO is not something you do twice...

Im super nervous about starting agar. I figure I may as well try pour plates with Light malt extract first. They seem to be the norm and simple.

I tried no-pour once and I'm never doing it again, save to try Pastey's EzLC. Pouring plates is a breeze, really. Just go for it with a sleeve, you'll only learn through practice. The first ones I did, half of them contammed, I was shaky AF and didn't feel really assured that it would work. Second time around, a bit better already. Now, it's like a walk in the park. Just forget to worry, it won't fuck up your other projects anyhow, this will only make you better at growing.
MrMouse, with all due respect, if I would ever go to a sterilizer THAT size, it would definitely have a checking window just for that purpose. And a water inlet. And a steam inlet+generator. I actually operated a similar sterilizer to make Tofu at a previous job. I think you could do about 6 90-minute batches that way in 12 hours. That's half an hour per batch left to fill jars or bags, water, get temps and psi up, and release pressure and empty again. It would be doable...
