I confess, I fruited batch after batch, then made the mistake of telling my gf, "I think I'm really getting the hang of this!" Needless to say, you should never say shit like that. I'm now throwing away four shoe boxes of A+ and APE that went crazy bacterial. I'm talking like cream cheese frosting over night . (Yes, I realize that's nothing for many growers on here, but I keep it to 1-2 batches at a time due to space issues. So, it's a lot for me).
It was the corn, coir, or excess heat/humidity that did me in. Aside from my scalpel, they are the common denominators between the boxes. Corn had been treating me well, but I think I'm finally going to give it up now that I have easy access to rye berries.
Le sigh. Going back to square one sucks balls.

Your never back at square one. You have more knowledge and experience. Don't feel bad. I've been throwing away half of what I make all summer. Same deal. Just when I think I got it figured out it blows up in my face and I'm second-guessing what I know and don't know. Your good. 99% of it's sterile Tek so foucus on that.

Way she goes when you're new I'd say. Get big into agar and always be juggling a culture, that way if something goes wrong, make a trasnfer then drop an agar puck into a master and in less than 2 weeks you are ready to g2g or do a single shoebox. From spore to mushrooms you can really cut time off if you do it right.

It definitely wasnt your coir and unless your temps got out of control it probably wasnt that either. Most people have good results with corn as well. Just brush up the sterile technique!

Thanks gang. Sorry for the whoa is me. These cultures had been grown on agar and were clean there. (Note to self, don't cut such giant slices next time).
My hunch about temperature is because the weather in that room spiked into the mid/upper 80's. Either way, I appreciate the offer about spores. Super rad to have such a supportive community.

Just a heads up, if your agar was truly clean high temps wouldnt do that.
Either there was something hidden in it (it can be easy to miss something) or your inoculation technique wasnt good and you got nasties in your jars. You PCd for 90+minutes at 15-20psi and let it hit that pressure before starting the timer right? ... I confess I spilled 70% iso on my genitals while doing naked sab work and it burned really bad

True that. I guess that's always a potential.
Kinda. I instant potted it at ~12PSI for 2.5 hrs. Haven't had any issues with that thus far. Again, ya never know, that's a possible vector, but a lot of people also follow that method with success.
LMAO. Just keep that shit away from open flames!

I doubt the size is the issue, I tiger drop full agar pucks, I think you may have had a contam from the beginning or something got in when you dropped your wedge in

Sounds good. I spawned and prepped my subs in less than an hour! I confess. My laziness has paid off and I’ve only been using warm water to prep coir for a few years now and there ain’t no reason to boil water anymore.

Flow hood, big pc, and most of my myco stuff are all sitting in a storage unit for a few months.
Today I set up a space in the basement, and used my old SAB for the first time in years... Confession: Felt like a shaky handed noob. Couldn't see what I was doing. Hit the top of the box a couple of times. Probably fucked up half my plates.
