When I flame my exacto knife for transfers i have the same issue, ive found not getting to carried away with flaming helps some (my issue was i was flame sterilizing the whole lower half ) also gloves definitely help to! Well a couple layers of nitrile gloves lmao
Ive never used iso for anything in growing at the most I use water with some antibacterial hand soap mixed in for spraying down my SAB and my arms but that's it

I wipe everything down with ISO before it enters my flow hood area (including my gloved hands). I think that's all I use it for any more. I'm sure that soapy water would work for wiping everything down now that I think about it...

I use a spray bottle for iso and spray hands, dish sleeves and jars. Also wipe down the work surface and scalpel handle before working. I would think soapy water would leave a lot of residue. I do clean the work surface with cleaner from time to time. This is all in front of the hepa.

Interesting, I don't even wipe stuff down I load up my work area, loosen jar rings, place SAB over top, spray down with dilute soapy water, smoke for a bit, flame my scalpel/inoculation loop, wipe hands/arms down with hand sanitizer or soapy water, do SAB work
So far my contamination rates pretty low, still get some bacterial contamination mainly but thats more just cause I'm still learning to identify hidden bacteria
Soapy water definitely makes stuff slippery still if you use alot of soap, hand sanitizer works good to

Hahaha mutants are pretty cool though! I think a flush of all mutants would be visually appealing, that's where I view it as more of like growing art if that makes sense

Exactly what I do. I think when you spray the knife you don't have to flame as far down, a bit safer. i also keep 2-3 blades at the ready for when one gets too hot.

I confess Iβve been playing it a little fast and loose with my sterile sessions and keeping around contaminated tubs longer than I should.. I just lost a bunch of spawn to trich, aspergillus yeast, lipstick mold, and in one case even some pin mold. Iβm not exactly sure what happened during my last sterile sesh to make it so bad, but jeeeesh it was bad. Normally I lose 2-5% and chalk it up to lazy technique but lost like 3/4 of the spawn I made last week (and the rest is highly suspect). Back to gloves and tons of iso. (After doing a dump run and spending a couple hours cleaning my house.)

I'm on fire last few months... I've stopped shooting for second flushes lately bc I got carried away with spawn production after the cruise and don't have the space...

I got into your same boat caps, i had 36 jars of grain going before I knew what i had done, i needed 20 max. Me in my myco room: Im looking at at plate yea ill take 6 wedges to inoculate 6 jars of grain, when one or two jars would have been plenty. If you refrigerated the colonized jars iv heard they keep longer.

Fucking heard yall.. I have like 20 masters going right now, all of which are fruit clone cultures, and my protocol for those is 1:10 masters to receiving.. Im actually hoping one or two fail, cuz im not going to be able to handle that much spawn, i physically wont have the time or space

Humility goes a long way. Itβs great youβve been able to dedicate 100% to cultivation, but that doesnβt mean you need to βhumble bragβ to knock others down.
