So my first batch of Lophophora williamsii just passed a year. I planted about 100 seeds... I got about 60 to germinate... I currently have about 8 plants left and they're about half the size of a dime in diameter. It'll be a while before you know if you made a mistake

I live in rattlesnake country. Never killed one, never had one strike at me. In fact, they get out of my way most times. I figure they just want to be left alone.
To each their own!

When one cow feeds a few families for a while.. Can't afford to lose one due to a snake bite..and on top of losing the meat we lose money too.. A cow isn't cheap enough to be ok with one dying before we take it to the butcher

I confess I got back into this hobby about 2 months ago without any real plan and I feel like it's just now staring to become clear. I need to be better about cloning and printing. Seems like my harvests keep coming when I'm pinched on time.

Wow, a year for a dime sized cacti? my neighbor had a san pedro that grew pretty quickly. They said you wud need like two feet of that fucker to make a decent trip.
Also confess that i absolutly detest waiting. I hate it!
I dnt carry fear of any one particular animal, cept humans. As far as im concerned at least half of us are part fucking martian and dont belong here.
Lived with a Jainist monk for a few years. He wud say that you are collecting only little karma from the violence until you realize a better solution. If you continue, then the violence will be heavy in you, especially if you take pleasure in it. So if that is the best solution, then so be it. If there is some way that you can reasonibly prevent the rattlers from comming in contact with cattle/people, like maybe a barrier of some sort, then that might be a better solution.
There is always a best solution.

I confess, telling the boss tmrw that he's got until late August when I go on vacation, to find and train someone to help the guy that's stepping up to replace me ; that I won't be coming back an employee, but a dedicated business owner... fingers crossed, but I'm prepared for it to go badly... I'd rather leave the opportunity open, but have a skill set (outside mush cult) regardless if he would utilize it or not: I could find work if necessary... but it won't be! It'll continue to grow as I devote more and more to it... it's final, decision made!
Shiitake is a very rewarding experience: even just watching colonization, popcorning and browning... then how quickly they pin after slap and cold shock!
The shift to "mycologist/mushroom farmer" (mycologist first and foremost) is underway

Thanks brother
Things have been weighing me down lately. I'm doing pretty good though. This has given me pause to re-evaluate. Thank you for snapping me out off a negative pattern I've been apparently in.
I've got some wins and losses, a GH full of lions mane bottles, a few with contams. (I know why too, just sloppy SAB work). Some ganoderma too.
Luckily with the bottle tek, a contam or two doesn't ruin the whole batch.
I(we) rock! Growing mushrooms is awesome.

Myco Sins: Confession from about 3 1/2 years ago
Okay. So I like to go to second-hand stores and scope out whatever, whenever. I especially like the unbranded stores as they utilize donations, large auction lots, and seizures from police auctions.
So where I was living, there was one such store. I went there about once a week to see what new junk had made its way in. I found a brand new impulse sealer and was super stoked! So I kept looking around, my junk-finding senses tingling.
Those senses did not fail me. I found a whole bag of aloha cellulose filters, unused. Wide- and regular-mouth. So! I kept looking.
That's when I happened upon her. It was (I thought) a flow hood, 24 inch PurAir, practically brand new. I was so stoked. They wanted 800 for it, and I was like... too much. Wednesday was 1/2 price day. So I went home and explained to my boyfriend that I needed 400 dollars. He agreed, although a bit grudgingly.
So. I went and bought it the next day.
Fast forward a few weeks. I set up the space for my agar pour after having tested the unit.
I'm pouring and all seems well. It's amazing, right?
Dead. Fucking. Wrong.
It was a god damn FUME hood. Which...I would have realized if I hadn't been so excited and buyer blind.
Out of 20 plates, 6 were still uncontaminated by the graces of I don't know what. And I used them.
The fume hood is still in my possession. What I'll use it for, I don't know. But it's mine.

A couple weeks back I ended up in the ER and had surprise surgery (minor but unexpected)).... well I confess that today I used the “I have a follow up appointment that doesn’t really exist” excuse to come home early and get a bunch of myco work done. Been a LONG time since I bailed on work for personal enjoyment. Started around 1:30pm and just finished up at 9pm. Poured/transferred 40 plates, dropped 8 into grains, did some shoebox organizing, and waiting for the dehydrator to finish up as I type....

I really love this shit but I’m starting to get alarmingly obsessed!!!

I confess, I want to try my hand at some shiitaki and oysters someday soon...

I confess, I had a grain jar that was half contaminated with mold. It's tough to get spores where I live, I had used all my spores for this varietal, and was about to lose my last sample. So, I hacked the top 1/4 off the grain spawn and set it in an isolated tub to fruit. At first I got a single, tiny shroom that I was able to print. I then got 5 more of decent size. In the end, it never got moldy again, so I was able to to a grain to agar transfer and keep my little prints for later. Woohoo!

Nice save! I would have taken a small sample straight to agar after you cleaned the mold mess. Whatever works eh
