Afraid!?
:justno:
I Don't get it... (clinically lack a fear response though)... they're just pliable jars that hold extra... put jar rings between the bags, and between the bags and sides of the PC, in order to allow steam between them for more effective sterilization... vent steam from your PC for 10-15 minutes before adding rocker, bring to 15-18psi for 2.5 hrs (play with the temp to maintain 15psi without rocking violently or losing too much steam and running it dry), I leave them in the PC for 48 hours to cool completely, but I'm also running 4 5 full qt bags in each Presto... you can fold the top of the bag over itself (like an accordion flap)and do them with or without tyvek sleeve tucked into the gusset... I prefer to use them bc they seal without, and can be a PITA to get open... Just :2cents:

I'd avoid going past 15 PSI as I believe it can compromise the bag.

Interesting... I've been putting a quarter on my weight to hold ~16-17 without rocking... the bags have stretched a few times... hmmm, related perhaps? I'll kick it back next run and see what's up... haven't seen any contamination, but that's not to say it's not entirely possible

Isn't 2.5 hours a little short?  I was thinking in the 3-4 hour zone was more like it for bags that big.

Yesh everyone I know that runs them as grain spawn bags goes like 3 hours. Atleast. But those are also big 41.5 quart cookers too. 941s and 75xs

But yesh. If I had my 941 full with bags I'd go 3 hours as a starting point probably

Sign in on a computer: can't do avatar from mobile/ can resize images from desktop site... I've been running 4, 5qt bags of Oats for 2.5, no issues

Probably worth mentioning that they stay on the stove until pressure is back at atmosphere,  and left in the PC for a full 48 hours before use

Are you waiting for them to get back to room temp or pulling them out warm?  I have some cooling in the PC, but don't like that I can't pull them out and fire it up again lol.

Caps, Why do you wait 48 hours to cool?

Yeah bags suck I always allow them to cool then use them so I can only do 16 bags a day with jars i pull once the lock drops and run like that .. cause they are so easily contamed i wait and use them in front of my hood ..

You can choose to pull them but I really wouldnt recommend it

This jar of sacrcodon imbricatus should not be fruiting. I confess I'm not sure but I think that contamination is active.

I don't care to have my hood running for hours on end... filters are expensive lol

But if it's large enough, you can unload bags in flow and crank back up... even set it up so the bottom of the PC is lower than the hood, so the mouth is in flow... I did a few times with the other hood, but no way with the beast

So that's the only reason to wait, is because its too hot to inoculate?

Any reason why you couldn't unload them warm in front of hood, tie bag with wire, then let cool on shelf.  Wouldn't have to run the hood very long and get the PC back and running…?
