I use tweezers tho. I wrap like 8 pairs of tweezers in foil separately and put them in a jar for sterilization in the PC. Then I always have a sterile pair on hand when ever I need one :super: I feel like it cuts down on contams sooo much with swabs!

I just saw this technique, but for Agar->Grain/Sub. This dude just has a fucking jar full of them (at 9:54)

I'm probably going to start doing this, but likely in a few jars with a few tweezers in each.

Hold it steady with one hand in a standard vertical orientation. Smack it on the bottom with your other hand. It should slllllliiiiiide down the side into the grain eventually. Don't smack the jar into things, smack the jar with things while the jar stays as stationary as possible.

Thats a good one! lol
I cant even imagine what kinda work could be done in a dresser drawer. Now you have to make that shit work just to say you did it.

I had a sigh of relief when I checked on things this morning, my beer agar seems to be working, one or 2 more days and I'll know for sure. Myc is beginning to jump off for sure. I was really worried I might not have cooked out the alcohol very good, or at all, and that would be a problem.
Tried all sorts of different recipes with and without food color too. I think it's time to pitch the food color, it was cool for a little bit but its just impractical. The closer I can get straight up CLEAR dishes the better.
Might just use beer agar from now on because it seems to work and the plates are sexy bitchez.

I confess when I first saw the post I thought ok this will be bad ass and no one had thought of it before .. I thought he took a dresser and took the drawers out .. cut 2 arm holes into the back cut the top off .. then sealed with bisqueen however it's spelled that heavy duty plastic .. if you made some shelves that's how you could make a sab for bags and whatever else .. you could make shelves at different levels make doors for multiple levels of arm holes for different work that day .. you would be standing and hunched over though..

But that is what went through my head when I saw the I made a sab out of a dresser haha.. anyway I hope someone makes a box as I've described

I confess, I did a bunch of agar work last night and when i finished up I managed to knock over the lamp while turning it off and it fell onto the table where all the plates I had just transferred were sitting, only one was cracked but a couple  of them ended up on the floor with the wedges knocked to the lid or side of the plate.

Been there, done similar  It's tough to fuck up a couple hours of work with a misplaced movement.

On the really stubborn wedges that won't budge you can lay your jar on its side until you get leap off.

So I confess... after a lot of hard work and refinement... I'm feeling a lot better about my mycology work! My last bit of work of pouring 20 plates and inoculating them was a huge success! 0% contam rate! Every plate is great (well, I'm cleaning up a wild clone with some issues, but it came from the mushroom itself, so I put that there intentionally).

So, 3 weeks ago 40%~ contam rate. This week less than 5%~ contam! Stupid fucking happy with this progress.

Here's what I improved:
  • More than doubled my cleaning schedule at home.
  • Ran an air purifier in my rooms for a few days in each room (not while doing work though).
  • Upgraded from alcohol burner to propane torch.
  • Added a wire rack for my SAB so my work stays off the "ground".
  • Watched a TON of SAB work videos and worked on improving my technique for movements and holding my utencils.
  • Started running my SAB dry (no misting).
  • I started flipping my lids so that they are gasket side up (aka upside down).

So, if you're looking for ways to improve your sterile technique there's so many little things you can do. I'm sure there's tons more I can do too, if you're having contam issues don't give up! You can do it

You better be more than good to her, I hope you recognize her rarity. Sounds like you have a good woman,  I hope you are reciprocal.
