I see. I got ya. Yeah I look at this technique as sort of a "training wheels" ya feel me. Ans it helps to troubleshoot your steps.

I'll cut mine down then I will do 2.5 qts sub to 1 spawn right now I have about 4" sub bags but the mixing is a pain I have some half fully colonized a d half not even a sign so I hope it fills in before mold from the stuffy environment

I zip tie mine after inoculating. Then just shake the shit out of it. I've gotten pretty good at it lately. I guess there is a little technique to it.

Man as much as I hate to see anyone else get mold I’m glad to see I’m not the only one dealing with it though. That gives me hope that I’m not just a dumbass I need to learn bags though.

same here but I do 4 qts sub It looked like they were mixed good but it's hard to tell how much grain is in with that much coir .. both are 5 days since spawning just these were mixed way better

I'm moving to bags like this, Yesum. Seems so much easier than jars and making lids.

I had a problem getting contaminants, I couldn't figure it, so, I pulled everything out of the room and found a patch of trich. growing under the storage shelves. My adult son had surgery and stayed in the room, he spilled a drink while medicated and forgotten about it, once cleaned up things went back to normal. Contaminants always showed up before or during the 1st flush.

Yup bagging with Bos but he uses LI to inoculate his bags. And he mixes the hydrated grain (uncolonized) into the bag with coir, sterilizes, then inoculates with LI. I inoculate with a jar of grain. So I omit mixing uncolonized grain before sterilizing. But it's the same technique basically. sterilize a substrate in a bag. Then inoculate with whatever
Here's another guy that grows in bags. Start to finish. This is where I learned about it prior to bosley doing it. This guy doesn't sterilize his coir though. Just bags it up. And inoculates it.

I confess i am getting pretty disappointed in myself with all the failures recently. I attempted to spawn 2 of the pint masters that i kept from the rest of the tossed expansion attempt. I hoped i lost it all in the G2G and that the masters were clean at least, but my cottage cheese white moldy shoebox says otherwise
really thought i had a clean culture, but it seems i need to compare pics of myc and mold for a few hours a day..
also wonder if im messing oat prep up somehow? 2 attempts now at nocing up quart jars with LCs from a vendor, and no growth after 3 days? Maybe i runied the LC by having it in the fridge, idk but ill try and squirt some on a plate to see if it does anything before i go blaming anything outside of myself.
oats are brought to a boil, 45 min later i remove, lay out on window screen overnight under fan and jar/pc when i get home from work the next day. they feel almost too dry, and i PC for 2-2.5 hours.
eh idk, im gonna keep tossing and trying tho
positive vibes to all you

when you sterilize your coir how long do you go for in the pc? I read the bottle tek and the baggin with bosely but he didn’t say and the bottle tek was with jars.
How do you seal your bags? I’m guessing you seal them in/after PC then open them to put your grains in then you zip tie them for colonization?
Im going to try this out.

Take LC to agar first for testing/cleaning... LC isn't a replacement for agar
I use half a tyvek sleeve tucked into the gusset as a filter, unload in flow, and zip tie after dropping

Usually, pasteurization is enough, sterilizing it can be bad because you kill everything and pasteurization doesn't, it leaves some good bacteria to help keep the nasties from taking over before the mushroom mycelium takes hold.

Not in coir: coir contains no beneficial microbes... poo does...
Bucket tek coir isn't even technically pasteurized, but works bc it lacks a high level of readily available nutrition

I confess... I'm not feeling very confident in my mycology lately. I spent almost a year working up my skills at the last place I lived and had a really low contam rate and really good flushes. I can't do either of those right since I've moved into my new place and I feel like ally the work I'm doing right now is coming out contaminated. I'm kinda at a point where giving up on it all is seeming like a solid option since I just keep throwing money at things with fucking awful results.
