i'm ashamed to admit, there's a safety shutoff switch included in my drawings of the bucket heater. simple float switch to prevent it running dry. i couldn't find one i liked that wasn't $100 so i ran without it. all was well until i changed the control scheme.

this reminds me of the kc hyatt catastrophe. this is a case study presented to every first year engineering student. careless design change causing catastrophic failure, property damage and loss of life.

i confess. i fucked up. i dodged a bullet. i feel unwell. i am humbled.

Interesting read Jack.

Glad you dodged the bullet!

I guess you had a lesson to learn. Luckily you were able to learn it without paying its randsom.

trypt try big syringes in a sab with bags. much easier to work with than grain jars and no unfolding the bag inside the sab.

Don't beat yourself up (too much) about it man. Yeah you fucked up, it could have been disastrous, but wasn't. Be thankful for that, learn from it, never let it, or anything  like it, happen again.

We all do stupid stuff. I have done something incredibly stupid and reckless  (not cult related so not for this thread) that I'm still paying the price for and will continue to for a good while yet. It'll never happen again though.

Make an upright sab with the rim facing you and plastic draped down the front.  A large cardboard box would work better for stability purposes.  I believe some posted a pic of this setup a few months back.  Of course, if you’re going to start running bags, it’s time to invest in a hepa.

Yea, im not too serious about using bags, i just have some and have been brainstorming a way to use them with solids. I'm not even sure if size will be an issue, the process just seems really clumsy to me

I'm going to get back into bags for my medicinals. Bag work in an sab isn't so bad in my experience.

Again, im not making liquids. I wouldn't be concerned about it if i we're, it's a lot less cumbersome with a syringe.

I confess, I suck royally at liquids as well. But what has given me a leg up is making the lc broth, suck it into 30-60ml syringes, PC them, then put a sterile blunt tip needle on and poke a clean plate, give a twist and suck the poke/culture back into the syringe. It's a work in progress, but so far works well.

I confess some baptist church people knocked on my door at 10am today... didn’t answer and they knocked four times. I was thinking maybe I should have gave them some mushroom chocolates so they can really meet “god”.
