lmao. you're worried about sterile water but not working open air? that's backasswards. air is filthy
Haha oh no I definitely worry about open air stuff, my concern with the water wasn't it causing contamination my worry was it messing with growth

A bunch of plates formed condensation from pouring to hot I think but hopefully it clears up, if not i can try the coffee mug trick and then i ran out of agar towards the end and got a super super thin layer in the last 4 or 5, I'll probably stick to no pours from now on
What Pud said!

Seriously... I keep trying to convince myself to go no-pour for the cheapness of it ... but then I go and do shit like this because PETRIS ARE SO NICE

I probably poured about 60 petris before I figured out my condensation issues. I'm sure you'll get it faster than me (mine were environmental issues, not pour related). If you have a little extra money get a surface temp gun and just ping your agar until it reads 117F ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073J4MD6W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I tend to prepare myself to pour at around 121F.
Also, they're not the worlds greatest media jars, but there's a 3 for $15 bundle that's been happening since early December: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H275DGN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
PETRI LYFE Y0!
I definitely will keep working with them! I wanna upgrade to glass ones so I can reuse them to, god i love those temp guns! I just figured I could hold it without. Burning my hand so must not be to hot but i was wrong haha, gonna inoculate my first sleeve here in a few!

True confession
Just put my first Tamp and Jalisco spores to agar, excited! Will make jars for sclerotia and also try to fruit them for the first time. A lot of first coming up, APE,penis envy, tamps, jalisco, pans!
Couldn't of done it without you guys
Edit: Oh and did my first transfer to another plate from my first pan plate! (@Maryfair Child, Thanks!)

yea you need a more airtight fruiting chamber. just a heads up, those stones are going to be a pain to harvest and clean. they can't consume the hull so they try to colonize under it and end up trapping it

I... can't convince myself to do glass. For the price and (anecdotally reported) ease of dropping/breaking glass ones I can easily buy 500 polypropylene ($60-$82) and still come in cheaper than 10 glass ones. To make 10 glass ones equal 500 polypropylene ones I'd have to PC them 50 times. That's a lot of fucking hours in the PC. Other people say they just add them to other PC cycles (like for grains) but I wouldn't have room in my PC for that.
Also, get a temp gun! (or not ) I did the test and I was pouring much closer to 130f than 117. I was shocked at what temps my hands could tolerate.

I definitely plan on getting a temp gun! Can you reuse plastic ones? Thats part of why i like glass is because i can reuse it and mabye if theyre deep enough do them kinda like a no pour which would be really nice
Ended up inoculating all 20 dishes did some -PE -GT -Tidal Wave - Albino Cubensis -Enoki -Amycel 3015
Hopefully it works out! I ended up taking my gloves off since they kept sticking to the damn labels

depends on the plastic. some you can some you can't. polystyrene is a no go. but polypropylene can be pcd

You can get reusable, yes. I don't because of cost and complication. I know it's a lot of plastics to dispose of. I'll make up for it by being vegetarian and recycling promise
EDIT: Isn't using a pressure cooker 50 extra times also kind a waste of resources

True, haha oh no I could never be vegetarian! Amazon has some glass ones but a 10 pack was 30 bucks! Compared to 20 plastic for 10 bucks I see what you mean definitely cheaper to use plastic

Already vegitarian. Too much bullshit to deal with related to animal byproducts and feeling good about myself
Um... when I bought 500 they came to $0.14 each... so yeah. If you're just getting 20 at a time it's a bit less worth it.

if you do get them do yourself a favor, clean them out and make a sleeve with foil and use the oven and sterilize just the dishes. first find out if you can cook them in the oven.. just don't try to use them as no-pours or you'll make a mess

Oh yeah I know they arnt made for that, I figured if they had say 50mm deep you may be able to get away with it
I thought plastic ones shouldn't go in the oven though? Or did you mean wrap the glass ones in foil and put in the oven

the later. I doubt the plastic will survive the oven. it needs the moisture of the pc
