My sfd's have always been damp even covered in foil so I don't see what difference it would make. They haven't been an wetter without foil. I use 2-3 qts of water in a 23 qt Presto.

I just poured my first sleeve of petri dishes instead of doing no pours and my god what a bitch that was! A bunch of plates formed condensation from pouring to hot I think but hopefully it clears up, if not i can try the coffee mug trick and then i ran out of agar towards the end and got a super super thin layer in the last 4 or 5, I'll probably stick to no pours from now on

Keep practicing and do not give up because your first time wasn't a big success. If I did that I would not get any where in life. Keep going mate!
(I also do mostly no pour tho)

I confess I just stated pouring my own plates, and ran no pours for a couple years... Nothing compares to the visibility of a petri dish... And I won't go back to no pours

I really like the visibility but pouring plates in a small SAB kinda sucks, haha all my plates still have a bunch of condensation I'm gonna try the mug of hot water trick and see if it helps, I really like the visibility but I wanna mabye get some deep glass petri dishes and try and see if I can do those in a no pour stay without boiling them over

I definitely wanna build a hood, I do do much work in open air it's not even funny, will condensation hurt the mycelium any?

Condensation shouldn't mess anything up..as long as you wrap the dishes once solidified there shouldn't be any problems... You can buy a brand new hepa filter/fan unit cheaper than building a hood, I have a 24x48 and it works suprisingly well and only spent $140 on it used

That's good to know! I wont worry about tje condensation then, I poured my plates, stacked them 10 high and left them in my SAB to cool overnight, I'm gonna inoculate in a bit and then wrap them

Yes having foil on your jars does does make whatever your using forms filter wet. But there's a big difference between the steam that gets trapped between the foil and the lid and water repeatedly dropping down from the PC lid onto the filter material
I confess I ran out of mp tape so o just tore apart a throw pillow.

Whoops. Found 22 jars I inoculated on 18 Feb, and never shook. Most are 200% colonized. My wrists are paying the price of shaking them loose.
Nice growth, though:

Admittedly I'm only on my 2nd round of no foil jars. I just don't get the impression water is really raining down on the filters when there's 10 jars crammed in there. We'll see though. I've had a long stretch of no contams so I guess I'm willing to push some boundaries til I fuck up.
You gonna blame the pillow on the cats?

Def the cats. Ots not so much a contaminated issue. And if u under cook your grains it's not such a huge problem. But when it happens to me I can tell because I'll have a bunch of exploded grains in my jars. That's how I can tell a.descent amount of water got in.
When I was running with oats. I was under ooking them. And not using foil on my lids with ez felt and all it did was hydrate some of the oats more so then the rest. Then I tried that same way with wbs and because the wbs was pretty close to field capacity I got a ton of busted seeds. So now I use foil when I know my grain prep is almost perfect.
Make sense. Thsts how I experienced it.

I do foil as a precautionary measure in PC, and to keep bad stuff from settling on the lid until I'm done inoculating.

Seriously... I keep trying to convince myself to go no-pour for the cheapness of it ... but then I go and do shit like this because PETRIS ARE SO NICE

I probably poured about 60 petris before I figured out my condensation issues. I'm sure you'll get it faster than me (mine were environmental issues, not pour related). If you have a little extra money get a surface temp gun and just ping your agar until it reads 117F ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073J4MD6W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I tend to prepare myself to pour at around 121F.
Also, they're not the worlds greatest media jars, but there's a 3 for $15 bundle that's been happening since early December: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H275DGN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

True confession,
I just got scammed by an online shopping site because I wanted the cheapest stir plate lol
Stay away from felsha.com, they are scammers. Just cancelled my credit card because of those Richard craniums.
