Sorry to hear about your friend Nate.  People just get busy.  I feel like a shit friend too sometimes, friends understand that and phones go both ways.  Don’t beat yourself up.  It’s a good reminder for all of us though to make a bit more time to pick up the phone.

And....I’m excited for the new novelty grow!  You come up with some cool ideas!

I confess... I've been worried that I won't use my oats in a reasonable amount of time at the rate I use them.

So I started to turn them into milk!

Things I want to improve:
[LIST]
  • Possibly removing the sprouting phase. This sprouting phase cuts down on the bitterness of oats.
  • I may also try to add something more as a natural sweetener, one date

Any advice? Anyone do the same? If nothing else, I'm much better prepared for an apocalypse.

  • Id try cashews to sweeten your milk.

Those do not look like any B+ I’ve ever grown. Malabar would be my guess. Mislabeled print or syringe? If they are active... no big deal right?
    Just label them “Shroomy Shrooms”

Thats what I was thinking... I dont want to go into the source but this is a trusted sponsor and supplier I've used for over 4 years.... It's possible I suppose and they look so uniform... They have all the traits of an active ( In my understanding) sooo...

Only one thing to do now...  :1upmario:

I confess, I've not washed a single jar in about 2 months... just spawn,  rinse, and reuse... I don't even rinse if there's no residue or left over grains... haven't had any issues, and it's one less step

I confess i made a big ugly 1 gallon jar with the rest of my millet and brown rice and threw in some vermiculite cause fuck it why not? Then i hit it with some brown rice four LC that i made in a baby food jar by droping an agar wedge in there. Maybe it will work maybe not. But at least i dont have any millet or brown rice.  Time to OAAAAAT it up! Tiered of millet messes.

Don't even need the filter dude just snap the lid on and there is enough GE to work out great

I missed this yesterday. You use these for grain jars?? This is awsome. If they work with no modifications then everyone should be using them. They are cheap, they store better, and you can't break them. Damn im excited. I get the jars free from work as well but they take a ton of space and making lids is not my fav thing to do.

Thanks for the interest on the milk. I started out following THIS (off-site link) ridiculous recipe and adapting from there. It such a convoluted method though, so I'm trying to ... ahem, improve it.

Other thoughts besides cashews to add to the oat milk from the site here. Ratings of Oat Sprout Milks:

    • Best in Flavor: Almond (truly delicious!)
    • Best For Ease of Preparation: Wheat, Filbert, Buckwheat, Wheat/Buckwheat blend
    • Best for Low Cost of Ingredients: Wheat (delicious!)
    • Best Overall: Wheat, Almond

Likely going to try to use wheat to sub next time  I'm sure almonds and cashews are going to be great to add to oats, but they're not cheap!

Also, shit Nate. That's rough. My heart is out there with you.

Bph, youve gotta make sure they dont pressurize so loosen them a little. They arent used a ton because you have to remember to tighten them to shake, then loosen again.

I only shake when I inoculate. And yes you have to leave the lid cracked a bit under the foil.

I was wondering how GE worked, just unsnapped and foiled? Is the foil really necessary?

I totally thought we were talking about different containers. I might use those for agar but probably nothing else
