I just realized i can PC these bad boys. I wonder how they work for grain jars? I can see the lids becoming a pain in the sab but free is good and they can be stacked for storage. Shit im gona run some with my next batch of cultures. Throw a filter on her and call it a day.

Yes im about that dry box. At first i would flood the damn thing and more than once a drop fell from above into my plate and i was like nope nope nope. Its called a still air box not a wet ass box. But i still rub everything down with alcohol like its going to make or break it. Hell i even wrap my handles in ipa soaked paper towels before i flame my tools. Kind of makes a little torch that is probably more dangerous to me than contams but it makes me feel better.

That's going to catch fire one day. Wet boxes are definately recommended fo those not used to sab work. But its literally all in the technique.

Thats what im learning. To me its all about feeling comfortable and smooth with your movements and be quick but not rushed. Oh it literally catches fire every time i do it🔥, but im a bit of a pyro so i kind of like it👹 helps me get to that calm but quick place right before i transfer. Its not the safest/smartest thing ive ever done and its not recomended for your everday avarage joe (or anyone for that matter) but this is confession. I also hit the bowl in between plates/jars. 😋

I remember a few years ago I was pretty high doing some sab work n I caught the alcohol towel on fire.... It was not a fun experience, I had to weigh the odds on what was more important. Save my spore syringe or extinguish the box so my house didnt burn down....
I obviously chose the spore syringe:)
Shout out if you also have had an SAB meltdown

If your familiar with Magnum PI then you might remember the first episode when the dogs are chasing him and he has to unlock the car before they get to him and tear him to shreds. "Work the lock dont look at the dogs Magnum" thats where my head is when the handle is blazing blue. Just blow it out and cool the tip on the receiving plate and procced. I found it to happen anyway with an exacto knife the paper just makes it a bit more exciting😆.

I confess, I'm finally working out again.
I do my circuit, then check my myco stuff (jars, petris, monos, websites). Then another round of my circuit, then back to the myco stuff. Keeps me motivated.

Thanks dude.
Here's a good one.
I went to the dentist, which I really don't like. While they're working, drilling etc. I mentally walk around my myco room. Thinking of my petris and the turkey tail grow I'm working on. Mentally checking bottles and thinking about what I should grow next.
It helps to go to my happy place

I confess... I've been worried that I won't use my oats in a reasonable amount of time at the rate I use them.
So I started to turn them into milk!

1 cups dry oats make approx 2 quarts of oat milk. This currently is costing me about $0.35 per 1/2 a gallon for milk, and I'm still working on the Unhulled Oat Milk Tek.
Current recipe:
- Take 1 cup oats, soak 24 hours. (should produce about 2 cups after soak)
- Let sprout for 1.5 days.
- Take 1/2 cup of oats, boil for 30 min. (should produce about 1 cup of oats when drained)
- Combine in blender: 2 cup water, 1 cup of sprouted oats, 1/2 cup boiled oats, and 1 date (remove pit)
- Blend 30 second
- Add 1.5 cups water
- Blend 30 Seconds
- Strain with nut milk bag
- Repeat steps 4-8 to finish off grains (Look, my blender isn't big enough to do it in one go)
That's it. This may look sorta complicated, but if you read between the lines (and are familiar with using oats in mycology) you can see that you can literally do this along side your standard oat prep and it will add only a couple min overall. The sprouting is the only part that is kinda crap and tedious.
I tend to prep the oats for the milk along side my shroom grains. I just grab a cup of oats and dump them in a bowl of water when I'm boiling the oats for Bod's Oat Tek. I also add an extra 1/2 cup of oats to the myco prep grains too, and then after they've sat overnight I just set 1 cup of boiled oats into a container in the fridge waiting for the sprouting to finish.
I keep trying to explain how easy this is and it still comes out sounding more difficult than I want it to seem.
Things I want to improve:
- Possibly removing the sprouting phase. This sprouting phase cuts down on the bitterness of oats.
- I may also try to add something more as a natural sweetener, one date isn't really enough, but more than that makes it too date-y.
- I may blend with a more milk-friendly grain/nut in the final blending step. I once used sprouted buckwheat to try to cut the flavor towards something more neutral, and it worked, but it was tedious to sprout two grains.
Any advice? Anyone do the same? If nothing else, I'm much better prepared for an apocalypse.
