Are u raising your petris off the frowned off ur still air box when pouring them and working with them? I've heard it helps a lot. There's always pastyplates

I do it all man. I think I have read and practice everything, besides wearing a suit and showering before. I'm chalking it up to relative inexperience. When I see 15 plates with contams, all I think about is FLOW HOOD.

IDK man, I have great success rates with transfers and such with a SAB. I did start wearing a surgical mask recently and that helped with some infrequent bacterial issues I was seeing. Flow hood's aren't a cure-all either. I couldn't use one in my place anyway, since I have a 500 sq. ft. apartment and no dedicated area that I could keep clean enough for that purpose.
What kind of contaminants are you seeing, mostly?

Yeah, I want to improve technique to get better. I get a little bit of everything. Bacteria spots, those green circles, fast moving white fuzzy stuffβ¦.lol, those are the scientific names.
An aspect I'd like to improve is the amount of time it takes for me to get the sample off the knife and on to the plate. Sometimes it just doesn't want to stick. Which means its open longer.

post pics of your contaminated plates so we can judge of it's the pour or the transfer you're botching.

Speed isn't nearly as important as being calm and steady. It's not the amount of time the plate is open but it's how you treat the open plate. How far up your handle are you flaming? You making sure it's red hot? Are you making sure sterile scalpel is the only thing over the plate? It's not the end of the world if a wedge sticks. Just don't panic

Thanks for the tips. I flame it good every time. Sometimes gets too hot to hold if I flame the handle.
Thats what I love about this place. People are always trying to help each other out to get better. These are all first transfers away from a germination plate.

I confess, I have to move in a month and am getting more depressed by ramping down my mushroom production to consolidate it for the move than anything else, even the bullshit money I have to spend.
Gotta try to remember that I'll get super excited to ramp it all back up in a month or so though.

It's your technique, slow concise movements, don't place more of your instruments or self over receiving media than needed to do work

Replacing the top of my SAB with plexiglass, standing and looking down has made it easier to work on my technique. Plus I can breath normally. I found before I was looking through and arm hole to see what the hell I was doing.

LOL I also hold my breath when doing this and don't realize it until I'm panicking that I haven't breathed in a bit but don't want to UNstill the air.
I really want to add the clear front panel or top panel to mine... Must be patient until my move... must be patient... must... UGHHHH!!!! ARHHHHH!!!!

Speaking of getting the go-ahead from the wife... I confess she doesn't know it yet but since she was asking me questions about how DMT is made while we were watching pharmacopia she unknowingly gave me the green light. My myco lab morphed into a myco/chemisrty lab overnight.

Also to confess it's going to be the 1st time on DMT for me. I've wanted to go heroic on shrooms for a long time but I'm too chicken or timing isn't right. Seems like the way to go epic on a businessman schedule.
