Yeah, it's tough to keep such an awesome hobby a secret. When I only grew actives it was hard, now that I'm growing edibles I can show people some of my stuff. I actually got a couple people interested in growing edibles because I showed them my grows.

I confess that I try to hide in plain sight. I leave my Mush cult stuff out in the family room (flowhood and Petri dishes mostly) and I leave a few dishes labeled βShiitakeβ and Stametesβs Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms lying on the table. My kids (21 & 19) bring friends around. I figure if they are not cool they will see Shiitake, if they are cool they might suspect. I tell my kids NEVER to actually tell anyone.

I confess, I just threw away a dozen clean cultures, and it hurts... too much going on and there are a few projects I'd like to give my minimally divided attention to... wada yadoo?

Here is whaayaadooo... Place those cultures in a gallon ziplock and throw them in the back of your refrigerator- they will probably keep for years. Some cultivators have a mini fridge for this very purpose. However if the temps are not stable condensation can build up and be a problem.

Clean cultures on plates or on slants? I do want to learn more on keeping cultures going for extended periods of time; even when not using them if I get too overwhelmed with what I'm already doing
,(aka you) But I'm more than sure I will never have as many projects going as you do(at least for now). But then again, I only wanted to buy a small ass pc because I thought I was only going to be doing brf jars.. now nook at me.. sticking quart jars and agar bottles into my presto lol.

Yeah... I've got some of them slanted already, and others are doubles I didn't use (usually take 3 transfers and pick a favorite to continue with) so I don't need them... just feels a bit like murder... my fridge sux, but I've got eyes out for a cheap minifridge lol

This is awesome! I'm getting more into energy work and will likely end up with something like this. I have giant hands, so rings all look super masculine on me too. But I'm getting into necklaces with stones/gems for this.

I do the same. I just brag about this shit all the time and I always just say "mushrooms". If anyone asks they're usually like "What like shiitake and portabello?" and I just say "Exactly!" and then list the edibles I have growing. Everyone loves talking about it becuase it's such a weird hobby.

I confess I had 18 shoeboxes and I'm not 100 on when exactly to put them into fruiting after spawn.
I've seen a lot of mixed info about fruiting at spawn, fruiting after 100% and consolidation etc.
(wont even go into casing and when on this)
My set up is specifically semi dry RH in low temps but regulated artificially at 72 fruit and 75 colo room.
Heater makes the Fruit room dryer so it takes a mist a day rarely 2.
Is there a current consensus on when to fruit after spawn or is that still very up in the air and personal preference?

I think there is a thread by azur on putting tubs into fruiting at spawning. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22315950/fpart/1/vc/1
(the gist of his argument is on the first page)
The discussion there leans pretty heavily toward introducing fruiting conditions at spawning and nature does its thing... basically as the mycelium starts working up to the top layer and feeling the RH & FAE pins pop, may be a few days or even a week earlier than if you had eye balled it and initiated fruiting when you thought it was the right time.

So around 4 or 5 of my boxes I did a top casing layer and they have just as many if not more pins then my standard no case and consolidate to spawn shoe boxes... They look better too honestly.
Thanks for that link m8.

I was telling my wife about certain people's grows I've seen here. Dedicated rooms with 20,30 tubs rocking out the cubes. My wife said, well why the hell don't you do that!?
