5 days, the 18th through the 22nd. Regardless of which route I take I was going to spawn in the next day or two in the hope they'll be at 100% and ready to case when I get back.

Honestly, while I'm a new member, I've been browsing the forums here for longer than my profile indicates, and if it wasn't for seeing months and months of people being excellent to each other I wouldn't be here now.

I hate flame wars, mockery, and putting people down. It's no fun, and I have better things to do with my time than get flamed by anons.

I feel safe posting my shit here and my fucked up opinions, and that when people tell me what to do better or what I'm doing wrong I feel like it (usually) comes from a desire to help rather than show off how much they know. This creates a broader wealth of knowledge for new people, and sometimes those new people will become fucking amazing (I'm sure Bod and Pasty were noobs once, and look at all their contributions).

I'm not saying that everywhere should be kumbaya and shit, but like... why be an asshole to strangers on the internet because they're not as smart as you? Seems like a waste of energy.

And, I confess: Mycology has become my main-squeeze of a hobby. I was sick yesterday and didn't want to do anything, but know that moment and energy make me feel better. If it wasn't that I had a G2G transfer that needed to happen, and I wanted to brew up a new recipe of agar, I probably would have stayed in bed all day and been in a much worse mental situation today.

Yeah, you're probably right trypt. This culture did rip through my grain jars pretty quick for PE.

I haven't been hammered on yet but I've probably had a few close calls! lol I came here with almost zero knowledge and I have tried some dumb experiments and asked some stupid stuff along the way. I think I get the polite 'no comment' more than someone just telling me that was dumb or whatever. So that's cool - sort of.

I've had some great chats with a few people via messaging and trades. Great people that I wish were my real life neighbors or something. "It's Friday night! Come on over and lets grill some mushrooms!!"

I'm in Texas.. you have to throw something on the grill if you come over.. That's how we roll here  JK

1,3 year old members are the consensus of the community?that's most of what you see now. perfect example: everybody says they dont mist their tubs before first flush, and if your subs right you shouldn't have to... A big consensus. But I have yet to have any tub, no matter the sub, not need misting through first flush. If I went by what people said about that I wouldn't have grown shit yet. At least half of what I learned I did by doing, I have a gallery full of tubs if people dont believe me. Not trying to brag or start an argument, just trying to explain what I mean.

Oh and cheerleaders cheer for the team even when their losing.

oh fuck yeah, man, experience is second to none. in fact, i'm not sure i picked up on the consensus of your example. i mean, the consensus i read is that you have to learn to read the substrate. it either needs misting or it doesn't. maybe maybe not. learn to read it, learn by doing, learn from experience.

regardless, i see your point, you're not wrong. put it into context, tho. a newby with <50 posts, registered last month, showing a sickly looking cake with a few pins coming out the side is deserving of much more encouragement than someone who's been posting such cakes for a decade. compared to nothing, that sickly cake is improvement. compared to a decade of sickly cakes, encouraging that is a waste of effort.

such OTD, i need a legit confession:

this morning, i went completely mad and dropped a bunch of coin on another engineering project related to mushcult, just for the experience of the project. don't want to give too much away, but it will be published, and i will likely be mocked. such is life.

I confess - if I have another ratchet idea about some stupid experiment that will take up most of my myco time and leave me ashamed I am going to throw that idea out the window! :laugh2:

The best thing to come from my last (ive only done 2) experiment was a ropey agar dish and I am hopeful for the recent transfer made from it.

I hope you all have an awesome weekend and have fun plans. With all the hostility on this thread lately :whoak:

Shoe boxes suck for me.  Give me monos any day.

I also found that casing and misting works for me.  Not in the desert but I have  cold dry air and wood heat. Tried just starting with over capacity wet sub but they all turned into a green mess.  Everyone needs to find what works for them.  Listen to the TC’s for sure but sometimes you have to adjust.
