You could destroy people by doing that.  If they are even close to a germaphobe I wouldn’t do it man!

I confess, my very first jars, I was so caught up on PH, bought a piece of shit pH meter, says pH of 10 for rye soak, so I added vinegar to drop pH, then with the crappy PH meter, I ended up adding 2 cups of vinegar to the rye soak cause the PH never changed, hour later I tried to correct the problem by adding lime, realizing the New PH meter was garbage. Obviously no spores germinated in the 8- qt rye jars, lol. Never used a PH meter since, and just harvested mono tub #30. So  that's  min. 240 rye jars, not a single tam,- polyfil user. I still use a glove box for G2G, gonna keep using it, 100% contam free rate on over 240 jars.

And to this day, I sterilize everything, from hpoo sub to casing, really for ease, I know other growers that sterilize everything as well. Never had a single problem. I PC 16-18 qts of sub at a time in oven bags. Nor have I had to toss a tub. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Lol, stumbled on an article saying how important the PH of the soak was ( before I came here), probably on Reddit or something, and someone said they used vinegar to drop the PH of their tap water since it was 8.5 or something, cause spores don't like higher PH values. Yup, I was gullable and it's  my confession.

I confess I forgot to open the cap a quarter turn, and this is the wonderful surprise I got when I opened my pc. I still poured the plates but I lost a vessel.

I confess I re-read Bod's tek for Oats and just saw this part
"bring it to a boil on high heat, put a lid on and reduce the heat."

I've been blasting my oats on high/max the entire time.. every batch. And no lid either.
I followed the tek more closely today and my grains look better for sure. Less burst kernels and I noticed more color changes during the drying process. Overall I think I found some improvement.

I started looking into this today because I was wondering what exactly we are trying to achieve by cooking/boiling the oats. Is it to hydrate them? Or is it to cook and possibly convert the oats into starches and/or sugars? Where do the mushrooms get all the water from? Just the coir/verm substrate?

:jah:

I think the cook is to get the max moisture content right up until you see the first burst grain, then it's ready.:goodluck:edit The moisture mostly comes from the field cap sub. The grain moisture is mostly for the myc in the jar.

I confess that I love you people! More of a confession I want to be loved by you people. Not in a weird way. Like, don't come to my house and say "I'm here to love you" that would be weird and I don't want that. I live far away from all of my childhood friends and I never found a group to click with as I work from home and have a kid. Once I came here I felt so at home. I love it. Thank you all. I confess Ill get a shroomery.org tatoo on my ass if there are at least 5 others willing to do it!
