Regarding Parafilm, when I first got it I kept trying to completely wrap my dishes. I didn't realize you're supposed to just stretch it around the circumference where the air gap is. LOL

I like those duh moments.

Here's one of my favorites, I looked it up, from 9 months ago:

There are hepa filter setups that also suck air, might even be the more common type for medical/clinical use :super: so you were kind of right

I’ve noticed through informal observation that writing the date does not seem to speed up or slow down growth rate... or affect likelihood of contamination.

:ducklol:

If I don't write the date I won't know if it grows fast or slow because I'll have almost no idea when I created it

On the flow hood note, the youTube video below helped me understand what "laminar" meant. Although the video is concerned with water, the same principle applies to air.

Pretty cool...Basically, my (possibly wrong) understanding is that you could have clean, turbulent air coming out of your flow hood and you might have okay results...i.e., better than nothing....but the turbulence is going to create a situation where a contam that hits the the airflow could get sucked in and bounced onto your working surface..low probability but greater than zero...  ...the perfectly aligned laminar flow basically ensures that any contams that hit the laminar flow will be swept away, not sucked in and bounced around in the turbulence.

Yay learning! lol

Sometimes if I have to shit while my agar is cooling I hold it in until I pour.

I confess, I have thought of it too. Mycology is the only thing I love so much I could put up with the 'work'.

That is to say, once something goes from hobby to job all the fun gets sucked out for me. But I think mycology would be different. I have enough passion to see me through the hard times etc.

I confess I broke the stove. I did Oats and PC sessions back to back and it appears to have been a little to much action all at once for the coil/burner thing.

The wife isn't thrilled but she didn't get too upset either  I think she was somewhere between stunned and slightly impressed.. Or she was stunned and I was slightly impressed is more like it.

:wow:
