that's what i've heard and was going to attempt first, basically a 30minute cook then into PC. I hear a lot about bursting grains, what is that about?
I'm waching for the first grain to burst and stop there? But before i load in PC?

Humble Newcomer said: that was the whole point that i remember reading, the long soak was *supposedly* better because all the bacterial endospores germinate and multiply, then go in the PC and *supposedly* you end up with a cleaner product and a bigger window of sterilization (since grains would really require like a 24 hour sterilization session to be truly clean, we buy a window of a few weeks).
There was a few big threads on it i remember.
Considering that seems to have died down or it didn't change the world at least, i'm thinking that people have great success with faster prep methods and thats hard to argue with. No matter how true it may be that you sterilized it better, if you're clean and inoculate it without letting it sit for weeks i think people are fine
This theory was shot down before it was ever brought up...we soak to hydrate not for endospores

I saw that in a few places. Soaking actually causes them to multiply though so wouldn't it make sense to not make more bacteria while soaking it and just get it done faster anyways?

You gotta get oats for race horses, type "grain store" in google maps and go there, ask for "triple cleaned WHOLE oats" don't accept hulless oats. The triple cleaned shit from canada is what I use. Winter rye is different from rye berries. Winter rye is rye grass seed and imo a bitch to deal with but honestly really good.
TheBlackCat is right, soaking grain is outdated, the soaking process allows new endospores to get in the water so it's pointless. Some say they do it to somewhat hydrate the grain to prevent bursting grains but honestly, I just cook em on lower heat.

it's only logical

The pressure cooker kills endospores. Soaking makes more endospores than you started with. They're either spores or in the process of germination which requires hydration.

This depends on a few things lime the type of endospores the length of the sosk and temps but anything under 24 hours is pretty safe.Quote:

Soaking grain is not outdated ...because it works, some prefer to soak some get byvwithout it...some grains can be boiled instead of soaked some can barely handle a simmer...soaking is simply another option just like your monotubs are simply an option

To each their own. You may get a few burst grains but honestly I barely got any in this batch and they aren't an issue if you are sterilizing your jars properly. It's only an issue when you are getting clumps of them. It's harder to colonize. But I've had jars with clumps that spawned just fine without contams. If your shit is sterile it's sterile.

I've done the soak method with success, but half the time I had to toss 3 day old grains that were starting to ferment out. I'd plan on prepping grain the next day ,but shit seemed to always come up that was more important. I'd rather leave the grain in the bag until I'm ready to use it. At least it's less wasteful for me.
Unless I have to dump moldy jars! Dumped 2 quarts today.

I dunno. I just sterilize my jars and never seem to really stress. The last few batches of wet jars I had amazingly worked out just fine because the only thing growing in them was cubensis mycelium. But having a hood helps. I just don't get stuff in my grains anymore. I feel spoiled. But not really. I did have to work hard to buy the gear I have now.

Oh maybe I don't have winter rye. I'm not sure what I have or what the difference is. I just know it works and looks like the hydrated rye I always see. Now I feel silly. I better go check on that.

Ok. It's def rye berries I have. I bought what they have at the feed store because it looked like what I saw online and I've been using it forever and not really asking questions. Good to know the difference.

Winter rye is just rye adapted for cold season, heβs thinking of rye grass seed.

I'm going to slap you AlexSmitt for making an already confused and high cat even more confused for a second.
Thanks Cron. I'm in a bit of a fog at the moment. I think I had this exact discussion with someone a long time ago.

Some third flush soaked grain LGT monsters.. one of them weighed 76 grams

Soaked grain martinique... my first bulk grow

Soaked millet Panaeolus Cyanescens... CVG substrate.. there was doubted fruiting capability but dense pinsets were achieved... dung based sub and higher temp/humidity would have given meatier fruits and more yield iβm sure

I keep meaning to grow LUCY's but never seem to get to it. I confess I'm super excited that my two APE shoeboxes look clean. Going to have my first apes in a few weeks hopefully.
