My confess pt. 1 I just went to fruit 3 tubs of AA+ but didn't like the way it looked. It looked waterlogged so I threw them all out.
Pt. 2 I got some oats in my RGS, hahahahaha, oh well.

I confess I've always just stuck to the cult forums. This weekend, I tried to explore the entire site. Yikes! Won't be doing that again.

What's odd? And what's otd? All these acronyms.
Same confession. Hunting and ID has a microscope sub section. Pretty neat but kinda dead. I just found outdoors and diy. And music (guitar). And shroomery U! I like that one I may be able to teach a subject or two. Neat concept.
I confess I have no Facebook and I'm surprised I'm kinda getting into shroomery. Anyone I meet in diy or guitar will be a grower too most likely. Neat.

I'm glad, man. I'm just saying I ventured all over the site. Politics, drama, horrible people and all kinds of weird stuff. I really had no idea. I guess I am naive.

I confess I came I saw and was done with those places on the shroomery forever.
Good news! I finally perfected cooking the grain in the jars. I fill it with weak coffee just to the level of the grains. Then when it's done I quickly release the steam from the cooker and shake the jars. If you don't you will get clumping. Then I go around and give them a second shake to distribute the moisture evenly. And then it's done. Nice perfectly moist grains with no clumps. Easy peasy and saves me a shit ton of time and energy. Also I do rinse the grain inside the jars at least once first because if I don't the debris and DE I put in the grain to keep out bugs gets it all sticky.

what grains are you referring to?
I confess i just ran out of wbs and am about to open my first 50lb bag of oats. Before i bought it, it seemed to be what everyone used, and for $13 i saw the appeal. But people said "once you use oats you'll never go back".
Now i've been reading a ton of contrary stuff

Oats are just easy and cheap. Rye berries are better but for the price and to have nearly as good growth it's worth it enough that you'll never go back. I like using rye berries for master jars.

Winter rye. It's more expensive at 30 bucks a 56 lb.bag but it's the only local grain I can get. Even if it wasn't I'd probably still get it cause it's really nice. It comes really clean too so I don't mind. Oats are cheap but can be dirty AF depending on where they come from. For someone like me who don't have extra energy the cleaning isn't worth it. For some oats are great.

I have always used RR's rye tek and it's worked great. Am I missing something here?

There are easier ways to do it. Soaking is a bit outdated. Some shit about softening endospores or something when in reality the soaking causes everything to multiply. Just boil it.
Also someone can elaborate more here for me if they feel like it. I'm high and I don't want to think or read.

Soaking is to soften the grain not the endospores, it is just a method to hydrate while limiting burst kernels

that was the whole point that i remember reading, the long soak was *supposedly* better because all the bacterial endospores germinate and multiply, then go in the PC and *supposedly* you end up with a cleaner product and a bigger window of sterilization (since grains would really require like a 24 hour sterilization session to be truly clean, we buy a window of a few weeks).
There was a few big threads on it i remember.
Considering that seems to have died down or it didn't change the world at least, i'm thinking that people have great success with faster prep methods and thats hard to argue with. No matter how true it may be that you sterilized it better, if you're clean and inoculate it without letting it sit for weeks i think people are fine

I never rinse or clean my oats, ~8 quarts into a large canning pot, fill with water, lightly boil ~20 minutes, drain on a screen over the sink, load 20 jars and cook. A little extra chaff gives more inoculation points and doesnt make them stick together IME.
