That's something I want to do too, it's usually the wife and I going, but alone up the river would be sweet.

I had this bizarre dream last night involving panaelous mushrooms and finding them growing all over my house.
Out of cupboards, in corners of the walls. But it was a bad thing. I was completely panicked trying to gather them all but they kept growing!
I did spawn a case of pans yesterday but I almost never dream about mushrooms. Hopefully this is a sign of good fortune nd not an omen considering the spawn was iffy

Nasty confession
Over the past couple of weeks I kept noticing groups of little gnat like insects near all the windows that receive the most sunlight, like the kitchen and the living room. It being Texas, living near the lake, and winter coming to an end, I chalked it up to the natural cycle of things and busted out the pesticide spray and doused the place down.
Seemed to have helped for a couple days, so I cleaned upall the dead ones, and they reappear even stronger. You could tell they were immature because their wings were barely developed and they could just fidget around on the windowsill, so I figured they had to be nested somewhere inside. First place I thought was my cactus plants, that maybe it was overdue on changing out the soil so I moved them outside and cleaned up again.
Finally this weekend they came back by the dozens, only near the same windowsills. I was determined to figure it out so I broke down the closets and went thru everything. As I was going through my myco supply closet I check my bags of millet and oats, no bugs, same with the bags of peat moss that I happened to have left open as well. Then I get to the back of the closet and there’s the 30 lb bucket of fresh manure compost I had gotten months before and forgot about. Sure enough, I open the lid (outside) to see thousands of some larvae and immediately just drove somewhere and threw the thing away.
Won’t ever do that again lol

I didn't know how parafilm worked. I'd use about 20cm of it to clumsily wrap up a Petri dish. This went on for about my first 50 plates and I'd scratch my head wondering wtf was so good about this expensive shit - it's like clingfilm but not as good and costs 10x more.
Then one day I cottoned on to how...stretchy it is. Now wrapping dishes with parafilm is my favourite part.

I had a similar experience ...
I knew I was supposed to stretch it but I was working in a shed at 45-55 degrees and it kept snapping! It wasn’t until I tried it at normal temps that I started loving it!

Yea parafilm is stretchy and has a moisture content. If it dries out it will snap like that. Keep it in a Tupperware container, or large ziplock Baggie for storage.

My confession for the day is not myco related..but I wish it was...so here it goes, today I had to clear a tree off my boss's barb wire fence and repair the fence.. 10 minutes before quitting time I busted my fucking eyebrow open and damn near knocked myself out with a pair of pliers... What a fuckin monday

I confess Pasty was right. I have like 80lbs of organic oats but I just bought a bag of conventional. The organic will be chicken food. Smaller grains, too dirty, and tons of bacterial grains

Eeeewe. That's why I don't keep shit around anymore. I opened up a bag of black cow manure and the shit was full of springtails. NOPE! Threw that shit right quick in the garden. I switched to coop poop. I use a lot less and it's dry heat treated low odor pellets.

I confess that I just walked outside after a long rain on a spring day and I asked myself
I wonder if that fresh smell after a rain is because all the contaminates are trapped in the soil bc the rain was like misting your SAB. Maybe it's the only time we smell air and not millions of contaminates...

That smell is called petrichor. I cant remember exactly why it happens but its a chemical reaction that takes place in the soil

So I just read up a little on it, an oil is exuded by some plants during dry periods and when it rains that oil plus an "actinobacteria" that comes from wet soil are both knocked into the air causing that smell.
There's so much that goes on around us without us even knowing.
