I confess, I just cleaned and bleached my SAB for the first time in a month. I'm pretty sure that if I were to swab the inside walls I could have made a rainbow of colors in my plate with the resultant sample.
Considering I was storing dozens of unwrapped plates in there, I deserved an outbreak but I somehow lucked out.

Do you keep it set up? I used to do a whole setup process, 25min from start of setup to start of work. (20 was waiting for spray to settle in SAB)
Saw that thread mushboy had about running his SAB dry, and i cut the spray and a few other things out.
Mine stays set up and I carefully peel the towel back, slowly load cleaned items thru arm holes, and get to work. I confess now I have a 1min prep, half of that is getting my mental game on. thanks shroomery for all the knowledge I've gained here and it's experimenting members.
For transfer, agar, other small stuff anyway. Edible bags I have to disassemble and spray and wait. But I knock those out on the same day. Once I move I'll build a FH for that, but now that it's like a quick stationary lab setup, I wonder if I'll keep my SAB still

Interesting read for anyone who hasn't read it. I just did several transfers including mailing out five wedges in a trade all in a dry box. Still air is an art, like guitar I'm still learning but you can see vast progress in one who practices. I had an 8/10 contam rate when I first started and a huuuuuge unnecessary long prep. This is a rewarding hobby.
There's also a thread on running hwfp bags in the PC without tyvek sleeves, how to fold them and get away with no sleeves. Interesting
Edit : For reals, I just now, a year in, discovered mushroom hunting and ID has a miscroscopy section. Never knew that. And spaceballjedi a guy I used to read all his teks when I was learning, he has whole sections on dehydrating your own meals to go camping, hammock stuff, then u got the ethnobotanical garden section a badass shroomery college where if you're good at something u can teach everyone in detail. I could teach a few. I bet I'd love to learn 100. This place is badass.
I confess I've been here a year and was so focused on agar and cultures and have been steady busy with getting my learn on, and I had no clue how vast this place was, I thought there was a pub out there and that was it. Which makes sense, all the subsections in mush cult like grow logs seem outdated. People post their grows in here. So I never learned to look in those subsections and what not.

Yes mine is set up all the time. It's just a really large clear bin upside-down on my desk. No holes-except one I burned in with my lamp and one I accidentally poked though with red hot forceps. Both of those have sterile painter's over though. My desk is higher than average, my arms go in the sab through the bottom of the tub, I overhang the tub a few inches past the edge of the desk. I never spray the inside, usually weekly I wipe it down with bleach or some sort of heavy-duty cleaning fluid. The month without a scrub down was due to needing plates in still air until I got the lab film that i had ordered. I stopped using most precautions other than being clean, wearing gloves and using alcohol. No towel no spray. just a good torch, a pint of 70% isopropylene, gloves and sometimes long sleeves
Edit: You know, I think a few mushboy rants convinced me to start shedding "extra precautions" as well.

I was almost late for work this morning because I was looking at my current batch of agar plates.

No need for all the extra prep. I wipe everything down with an alcohol soaked paper towel as I put it in the sab. I keep an alcohol towel in the sab to wipe as I go. Technique is everything, it's more important than wiping stuff down.

I confess I gave my eye a paper cut with the edge of my dust mask while making clones yesterday. It's really sore so that means it's not healing again which means 2-4 weeks of utter hell and eye drops. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow. Womp. Womp.
Might as well leave you with a bit of good news. My brick cap jars look like they are about ready to go on some HWFP. Also my ape and KSSS jars are on fire. I just shook them so should be about ready in 3-4 days. OMG. Can't wait for my APE's. Ouch. My eye still hurts. I'm going to go smoke a bowl and try not to itch my eye.

I confess its scary shit when a CDC epidemiologist working on ebola goes missing after acting strange. I may need a bigger sab.
