It was a joke. It's been consolidating for two weeks. It looks like it's not fully colonized because the dry verm layer poured down the side of the severely shrunken cake.

Because it's not full colonized, and pinning.  There is also the appeance of two different kinds of mycelium.

Nah, it was fully colonized two weeks ago and the picture isn't all that great. Like I said previously the cake is so shrunken from staying in the jar too long that the dry verm layer poured down the side when I picked it up to look at it, making it appear as though it's not fully colonized. It's no matter worth arguing over though.

At any rate, the confession was that I let some cakes consolidate so long that they're all pinning in the jar.

:whathesaid: there's definitely some sort of pin mold at the top of that jar, you may not know your ass from a hole in the ground but we do, we've been there

That's why I love mycology. Every day is a new surprise: Did that germinate? Is that contaminated? What do I HAVE to do today? Things to buy?

I love it.It's like Doc said: year round christmas morning excitement.

It’s been over a year since I started growing again and it feels like I just started a couple months ago. There’s always alot more to learn. Sometimes I gotta be humbled

I just started again about a month ago (took an 8-year hiatus) and the stuff I'm learning is astounding.

Like, that CVG is better and easier to work with then H/poo. Like glove boxes are obsolete and SAB are in. Prints are better and easier to work with then syringes, I could go on and on.

Thank goodness for the shroomery. Honestly.

Are you talking about where the dry verm layer poured down the side of the cake or the dried up mycelial print the cake left on the side of the jar as it shrunk and the pins pushed it to the other side leaving a direct path for air to dry out said mycelial print?

That was a bit harsh, but I think you're talking about that dried up print. It does kinda look like mold mycelium in the picture though.

It' just condensation in a region where the pins and dried verm have blockaded air exchange.

Jumping gee willikers! This sure is the fun and lighthearted thread I knew it would be! Nothing beats arguing with a bunch of seasoned amateur mycologists based on the crappy poorly lit picture they can see versus the jar I can examine from every angle stereoscopically!

Have a good one fellars, I'm hitting the shucks.

Good Evening Everyone...

I confess that I like this thread the best when folks are concentrating on sharing their awkward mush cult related feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

I confess that I was in the door from work for not more than 5 minutes when I said to my wife:

"I'm going to go check on the mushroom people in the garage... "

and she said "People?!"

and I said: "Yeah you know those little fun guys standing shoulder to shoulder in that dark humid little room out there... "

What are they saying? Listen carefully, it might be something you need to hear...

Re: TRUE CONFESSIONS - of an amateur mycologist [Re: PsiloPsychIn]

My confession is that mycology makes me excited like a little kid again.

While outside my job the other day I spotted a mushroom in the grass that I actually recognized, and I spent all my time excitedly posting on mushroom hunting and ID to ask if it was in fact the desirable edible shaggy mane.

I confess that I picked this gorgeous specimen, spent the next hour on a high in my head, thinking about how cool it was that I could recognize a wild edible mushroom, how many plates I have free, do I have master slants available, I wonder what they taste like, all that instead of actually researching that, (a) it's an ink cap so within two hours it was black, half dissolved, and not edible anymore and almost beyond salvaging a tissue transfer and (b) it's a secondary decomposer so I'll need compost like for buttons.

....I also confess that sometimes it's very easy to spot a noob or someone's mad excitement, and sometimes that's me
I was talking about giving out wedges and starting a grow immediately. lol
