Had my 1st time micro dose shrooms months ago from 10 invitro agar. But more than that after stayin a while ànd just reading conversations here i felt how warm, inteligent & helpful with sense of humor are people within this community. Cant help but join the convo. I guess ive found my new home and friends.
It also made help me strech my persevernce and patience upon reading the journals here while practicing.

No shit you should be growing APE. Like why the fuck you guys living in the US don't have APE in the top of the list of priorities? You've got access to the only legitimate source of APE spores, and you don't take advantage of that?
Breaks my wannabe-APE-grower's balls.
I’ll send you a swab

I confess I got into a conversation today with an acquaintance about my oyster mushrooms and they asked if they could buy some because a friend posted about how much they enjoyed cooking with the ones I gave them. I told them I don't always have them but next time I have some extras they could. The conversation turned over to gardening and I told them once the spring came and my mushroom blocks started composting they could buy some mushroom compost from me for cheap. It just dawned on my now that they can't have any of the mushroom compost because I've been composting my cubensis bins in the same pile. In fact no one can have the mushroom compost unless I start a new pile. Even then I'll be worried about drifting spores. During the summer my spent blocks would occasionally grow a few fruits. Now I'm going to have to try and avoid that person for the rest of my life or think of a clever lie. What could be something really bad that could happen to my compost that someone might not want in their garden?

What could be so bad about giving someone some compost with the possibility of rouge cubensis? Spread the love. Awareness not excuses.

I confess I thought mushboy was a jerk. After I messaged him to apologize, I came to the realization that deep down inside he's just a mushy guy.

if your sub is still putting out fruits then it's not compost yet... Its just mycelium... Turn it frequently and let other microorganisms get to it

Ahh ok.
Its should die off as I compost it.Sorry new to compost. What's wrong is I don't want them to find cubes because they will know I'm growing.

I get that. Just make sure it's dead first and you'll be good. Besides. Most people can't ID fungi if their life depended on it

What could be something really bad that could happen to my compost that someone might not want in their garden?
I’ll do you one better, I love compost...
Add a high nitrogen souce and make the pile heat up( coffee, manure, alfalfa, any kind of seed meal blood meal) to account fort 10-15% of the pile by volume. Pile will be ~ 140-160 in 12-36 hours depending on c:n ratio of starting material and will need to be turned 2-5 times in order for the outside to be mixed into the middle and to cool it and keep within those ranges. If your starting pile is already high N with lots of grass clippings and green leaves, you might need less nitrogen to get it up to heat. You will need a long thermometer, and I suggest a spading fork for turning, much easier than a shovel and more sturdy than a pitchfork
This accomplishes a crude pasteurization and will kill off the cube mycelium and also provide a great growing medium for blewits, shaggy mane, agaricus sp. and any other compost loving mushroom.
For bonus points you can pasteurize bulk sub by filling jars and shoving then down in the middle once its hot, for extra bonus points slow cook your dinner in one of the jars. You can cover them to keep them nice and clean, but be sure the plastic you use is heat safe, turkey bags from the grocery store work too, double bag for same reason hose off and reuse the dirty one, dont cold shock the jars or they might crack.
Be careful and don’t make a hot pile you can’t attend, at tempuratures of over 180 spontaneous combustion, is possible, and as unlikely as it sounds I personally know someone who had a very large pile (a windrow in a commercial compostingnoperation) that was neglected explode while it was being turned and it completely destroyed the tractor. I wont go to deep into the biology of it but the microbes in an overheated pile make alcohol and ammonium nitrate, all it takes is enough heat and sudden addition of oxygen and boom.
So turn your pile if it hits 165, anything hotter is killing off good microbes anyways. Once it cools to ambient temps its ready to use in the garden or for mushrooms, usually about 2-3 weeks after the last turning, for mushrooms you might want to jar or bag it up with a gas exchange filter while its still hot and let it cool like that to be extra sure its clean, but thats probably not neccesary for outdoor cultivation.

Let's hope it don't come to that, but if it does, I'd be happy too. I made that with the spring of a clothes pin and a piece off of a hat rack.

Wow! Thanks for all the advice on the compost guys! I am definitely going to try it for blewits.
I finally got my dehydrator. Shrooms got a bit gnarlly in the box but not too bad. Still moist. Just in time. Not my best looking ones though. Also I'm happy because none of my KSSS contaminated this time so excited! Just soaked my subs for a second flush. This time I'll keep them moist.
