What's this madness of tossing perfectly good jars when they tam out? That's wasteful as hell. I certainly can't, most of my jars are mason jars, ball brand, that I imported from Merica back in the day.
All it takes to deal with moldy jars is bringing the pc up to 15 psi and immediately shut off the gas.

I donβt always have time to spend an extra hour doing those steps just to empty out jars for another grain run. Getting a Presto up to 15 takes at least 40-45 minutes and I rarely have that much extra time on top of the nearly 4 hours cooking grain takes.
This hobby produces waste no matter what, reducing it as much as possible is a good idea but getting worked up over it is asinine imo

i would clean it with soap and water then load it with grains and pc. Not pc empty. Pcing empty is for people with time to waste.

the first pic is the kind that I have and it rocks. only like 5 bucks I believe. I flame all the way down to where the handle flattens out and my hand stays far away from any transferring. I'll look for the link for you

oh yeah forgot to mention the only thing I don't like about this scalpel is every once in a while after a bunch of cuts and flaming the blade with bend slightly enough to loosen up and fall off while making a transfer.
wasn't such a big deal as the myc still grew around the scalpel I left on the plate. But it can happen at the worst time when you have that perfect transfer and you do everything right and then the blade falls off before you can get the transfer finished. Very frustrating.
SO now I use some type of wire even a thin paper clip and wrap where the blade clamps onto the scalpel and it solved the problem.
I confess I just noticed last night That I haven't changed my scalpel blade in over a month and hundreds of transfers. Think I'm due. I used to change them every session but I guess I got used to using a dull blade.
I also use this blade to cut open my Bossley Bags so this one blade has been through hell and I didn't seem to have much problem transferring 40 plates but we'll see what the new blade feels like tonight.

I know it seems wasteful but emotionally it was liberating. I don't have plans of ever wasting jars like this again. I just had to do it for my sanity. I don't have as much energy as everyone else and I let stuff pile up. Next time I'll clean them before they get this bad. I just need a clean organized space that doesn't make my brain hurt and not looking at those jars anymore and just being surrounded with clean projects makes me happy.

Sucks cause the one you actually ordered is the shit. I love it. Though I'm starting to like the spear ones as well.

As much as i dont want to say this..i confess i almost caught my dick on fire today lmao..
I got out the shower and put on some socks and boxers and sat down at the SAB..dont know why never done it before. I pull a xacto from the alcohol jar and hit it with the torch. I guess some alcohol was inside of it so as its on fire and i tilt it to go in the hole alcohol runs out catches fire and lands on my boxers on fire. I jump out the chair thinking my dicks burning down..waving a flaming knife in the other hand trying to decide if i want to smack myself in the balls to put it out..went out on its own..then i went and got pants on..shameful i know rofl..
That will be all..

It's a good unit with the right blades. But when you cut up a plate to take to grain and lose a blade and are left using a bladeless handle to pick up a wedge you'll be wishing you had a solid spear style

The #7 handle is bad ass it's what I use. I get the issue where my blade bends slightly and comes loose also. What I did to fix the issue is shave off a little metal at the base where the blade rests against the handle. If you look at it, it's slightly at an angle, if you shave it flat it helps alleviate the issue. To further alleviate the issue, heat up the scalpel tip without a blade on it till red and then use pliers to slightly bend the tip back so that it puts less forward strain on the scalpel blade as it heats up and contracts.

Never had that happen yet. In fact I have used blades on it until they corroded on and had to use pliers to break them off. Handle is still good.

I kind of like the look of those I'm really attached to my #15 blade with a #7 handle though. I like the 15 A's better but they accidentally sent me regular 15's. My first one before I was really sure of what I needed was a Swann Morton #3 with a #10 blade. I use the #3 mostly for cutting bags now.

It usually doesn't happen unless you put them on backwards lol

Any thin wire wrapped around a few times will keep it secure and will easily be flame sterilized. And easily removed for changing blades. I was thinking of getting some nichrome wire instead of the paper clip I use because the nichrome would heat up much faster.
I do like what natedawg said about shaving it down though
