Confession, I really fucking hate laying in bed awake like this. It's 8am and I haven't slept one fucking minute. And that's after waiting till 4am to go to bed since this bed is so lousy I didn't sleep anything last night either. Yet, my father in law is expecting me fresh in a few hours, ready to change the tires on my woman's car
I guess the myco related part is this is the only place I feel like sharing this, and the only place I go to from the "comfort" of our bed at the inlaws...

I've had horrible sleeping problems my entire life, as well as ADD. Melatonin helps me get to sleep. Hope you can crash.
I confess I'm almost sick of growing APE now and am eager to get some new regular cubes going. Have a tub of AA+ at the moment and love getting bigger fruits again!

It's not my bed, my bed is HEAVENLY. My mattress literally has golden thread running through it, and I'm not even kidding. It's the bed at my in-laws that sucks.

The floor is awesome. Hard as fuck. I used to sleep on the floor for years and never had any of th problems Indo on the shitty soft bed i have now.
I Confess i have been looking into medicinal shrooms and reishi looks like it helps with sleep, anxiety, and is an anti inflammatory.

I confess attempting to expand my growing is proving difficult working this much squeezing 80 hours of work into 30 hours a week kicks my ass. Usually after Saturday I'm dead for 2 days. Fukkit. Swabbing 4 varieties tomorrow and Makin a bunch of LCS.
Another confession I can't wait till Christmas is over.

TBC, I always seem to catch something on my GW plates that I don't see on any other recipe. I can pour 50 plates of BRF and Pet food without a sign of anything then I pour a sleeve of WBS soak water and I get satellites on half of the plates. I think GW is the most sensitivity be for germinating baskets imo so far, just a tip you can try out! GL

Changing agar recipes wont solve a mold problem. Even if it doesnt germinate on agar whats to stop it from hitching a ride into your uncolonized grain jar?
Good sterile techcnique solves mold problems and using a sab properly.

I just want to add that changing media often is a good practice and definately helps finding hidden contams.

Actually, she definitely does seem to be on top of something, due to exactly what you say even. It's that she found the problem, only the answer IS changing recipes.
Her: I got contam issues, but plates look clean. Using other ingredients, stuff will grow that is now not growing.
You: if it doesn't germinate on agar what's to stop it from hitching a ride?
Her: Plates LOOK clean, using other ingredients, the stuff will grow that's not growing now, but now because it will grow, I'll be able to spot it before it goes to grain
Get it?

IME...Pin molds have zero trouble germinating and running super quickly on MEA...Mucor will also sporulate on plates. They run so fast that it seems unlikely that it could be confused with the cube myc. I bet both Mucor and Rhizopus will run on almost any agar.
It comes from the air/cultivator if it gets into a plate.
If its in a sub it's poor pasteurization that allows it to take over. Usually too hot.

No i don't. How is it possible to continually transfer non-germinating mold spores? it seems like if mold isnt germinating then each transfer plate should have less and less potential mold spores but likely none after a hand full of transfers.

Exactly, if mold spores are on a rice grain size piece of agar when you transfer it, then those spores are not everywhere on the edges 5cm away after 7 days, they must still remain mostly in the center, and if you do two of these transfers then how many spores can there be on the outer edges of the second transfer?
