Imho. Saving it all in first post is a real nono. It puts your balls right on the first page table, ready to be smashed. I wouldn't like it.

I confess my flow hood made a DRAMATIC change in how clean my cultures are. I was told it was my tek and not my SAB, but damn if I don't have a shit load of clean as fuck looking jars all knocked up from clean as fuck agar plates.

KIDS, despite what some on here will say, if you get clean plates in a SAB most of the time, but struggle to consistently get clean plats, go build a flow hood. IT WAS NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERANCE FOR ME!

I can't wait until I can build or buy a flow hood... I do well in a SAB, but I can't work with spawn bags in my SAB..

I've said this too, but no, it's no use, people here will go to great lengths do convince everyone that SAB's are usable just the same. I say it's at least in part depending on where you are living. Patience in working slow will probably have something to do with it as well, but I've seen a good increase as well. And technique is equally important with a hood. Boogieman agreed with me as well, but he wisely remained quiet about the matter on the boards.

Dont hate on my still air.

Id like a hood for bags. But i dont need one to be sterile.  It would just be nice to have.  Bags in the box are tricky.

O I know why he did. There is this attitude that this is a wrong way of thinking. Some of us have ADD and have a hard time working as slow as needed for a SAB. Then some of us live in drafty dusty houses, that makes it much more easy to have issues. Sorry but if I go 5 rounds of transfers and then get some contams, there is a good chance that it is not me, but my environment. I work in a basement that has drafts and dust, and the hood has cleared up soooo much of my problems.

@Mush
Your still air is fine. What I am trying to get at is it doesn't work for all of us. The problem is there is this dogma here that if you cant pull off clean plates in a SAB the your still going to have dirty plates with a flow hood. When in reality it can GREATLY increase our success. Hell mine isn't even true laminar flow and I have only lost 1 jar to some mold, and it was fucking black pin mold, only had that once before.

Thats not dogma.  Its an opinion about circumstances.

Stupid dogma is saying 'i can only do sterile work with a hood'

god I hate that word:sad:

Well at times it sure seems like it is a dogma. I have seen a few on here pushing that idea quite hard at times. It is one of those, what works for one may not work for another, things.

SAB's work for some but not others.

EDIT
Sorry for using "dogma". Probably not the best choice of word to use but it is what popped into my head.

Haha. I think the good advice given by some becomes deafening after its parroted by a ton of people.

I know ive done THAT before.  I dont own a hood and only used one once what do i know?

All i know is my house is drafty,  old and moldy.  I have tremors and (according to the wife) i am borderline retarded. But i rock out my sab

The one thing I can say is that it is much more comfortable working in front of a hood, well at least one that's 24x24+. I have not tried working in front of anything but my 24x24.

EDIT

to get back on topic more.

I confess I have 4 of the best looking shoeboxes I have had yet, and it feels fucking GREAT!

Almost exactly my situation brother. I know what you mean. I've had plates go well for about 15 rounds of transfers easily, before being fucked on 1 transfer. And then there were also plates I thought had contamination due to having concentric circles in it, while it was probably just the way mycelium grows sometimes.

And I would dare call it dogma. It IS being pushed as an absolute truth by some.

I have been studying an LGT clone of mine and have noticed something. When on petri dish it gives NO rings, but in glad mini rounds, where the bottom causes changes in agar depth, it with make a ring/change in the mycelium. This is really noticeable with off center transfers.

Maybe I'm an exception but I have no issues getting clean work done in an SAB. A flowhood is more ergonomic, can facilitate more work to be done in less time and allows for certain things to be easier however, failure in a SAB is due to a lack of procedure not an inherent fault in the tools design or function.

Or maybe I'm just a liar and my pics are all photoshopped

Your not a liar. It works very well for you. But like many things what works for some may not work for others. Like I said, I have to work in a basement that has some drafts from some wood that needs replaced. I just have never like the fact that some people want to tell us that a flow hood wont fix our problems. Like I said, if you can go 5+ rounds of transfers and then all of a sudden have mold satellites on damn near every plate well there is another factor at play. Also like stated some of us have ADD and trying to work at the proper speed in a SAB is very hard for us as we are natural "hyper" people.

EDIT
I just want to go on record saying I have never called anyone on here a straight up liar nor have I accused anyone of photo shopping their pics. I have a lot of respect for you and your skills Pasty, as many on here do.

Plenty do fine in a sab and they are the correct tool for some situations, but:
