Hell yeah Mycolorado. You teach that girl. She sounds like a sharp tack. It's nice to see someone who spends time with their kids and teaches them about alternative medicine and wild edibles. People need to be prepared for natural disasters and food shortages. Also adding just one wild food source a day can significantly improve your health.

Just got an email from her school....it was a video of her giving an impromptu presentation on reishi cultivation and use as a medicinal to her 1st grade class. She nailed everything from substrate to harvest to historic use by the Chinese. Pretty impressive shit considering she's 6. Guess the spore didn't fall far from the cap...
I always had a fear my kid would go to school and be like "my dad grows mushrooms" and the bullshit would commence..maybe i should switch gears and grow some medicinals and teach her..might save my ass later..great kid you got there lol.
She always says " dad why you always looking at them muchrooms" lol

I confess it's a poor idea to make half gallon jars for grain spawn. They all go green. Except for Garden Giants.

Tried everything else reishi almost made it too, but it too became wild bird food again.

Isn't the only bad thing about it the longer sterilization times?

longer colonization time lets the nasties have more time at it before the mycelium get there

Well, not if you properly G2G it. If working with the same amount of agar you would use in a qt jar, then yes. I've never done it though, so I might be very wrong, but I don't see why 10% colonized grain to freshly sterilized grain would be much different in a larger jar with more total grain as long as the 10% is kept, aside maybe gas exchange not being optimal.

I'm still pretty new at making wild cultures so every time I do I'm always saying to myself this isn't really going to work. But then this amazing thing happens. This tiny piece of tissue that you dropped in a jar starts growing these fuzzy little appendages. And then it's the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I mean think about it. I picked up a mushroom out of the woods and cut a pice of it's flesh out and cloned it. Everything in my brain says this isn't how life works. This is what makes the fungi kingdom so special to me. It's just the most exciting thing ever. I easily made 6 plates all growing out of one tiny little blewit.

Also. Imagine if we could cut a pice of our flesh out and grow another us. That would be just creepy.

They actually do that in labs. What do you think cancer cell lines are? They keep them in a lab on "nutrient agar". In their world, it's not LME. It's nutrients that are also in blood. They can grow lung tissue on plates as well.
It IS how life works. We're just not smart enough to fully understand it.

I get that you can clone tissueand grow them. But I was thinking growing entire people. W haven't figured that out yet. Or maybe we have and we aren't being told about it. Growing exact clones in a liquid nutrient solution. Ick. Stem cells can essential grow into any kind of cell.

There ya go. Hell, how many freaking years ago did they clone a sheep?? There's no way they can't do the same with a human.
EDIT/ it's 21 years. Their first successful human clone is probably 15 or older by now. Or dead.

Or neural stem cells that keep multiplying even when we're adults...
Confession: There is something inside me that finds the notion of dividing kids and adults based on age and supposed harm when taking drugs before or after certain ages preposterous. It's merely a justification to say "we're the adults, we have stopped developing so now it's more OK to start using drugs. We won't halt our development anymore."
It's starting to be found more and more that this is untrue, but I think it would be even more untrue if we stopped halting our development with all those drugs.
Kids react to psilocybin with more spasms than adults. I react with more spasms than most to psilo's, but I think that's more the way how I deal with shrooms. I just give in to them, in every movement. Usually people try to maintain themselves. Just give in and let yourself be fucked by the mushrooms. With love.

I confess for the past few months I’ve been changing up how I prep grains a little too much. Gonna order another bag of straight millet and go back to a 14-18 hour soak. Seems that’s what gave me the best results thus far. Still want to give rye a shot

Hey Germs, does millet usually have shiny hulls? I can get millet like that all nice and shiny, doesn't specify the variety. Idk if it's normal for millet to have shiny hulls. The shiny hulls sketch me out a little because I tried canary seed some days ago, super shiny hulls and it came out of the pc in one single block, unshakable shit.
I looked it up and apparently this grain has lots of resines. I don't really know for sure if shiny hulls mean resines and if resines mean clumping, though.
