I confess I've filled two tubs worth of overstock syringes, petris, test tubes, swabs, gloves and handtools from my lab supply shopping spree. The stuff just keeps arriving. On the bright side, I successfully walked away from the mason jar section today with only a couple boxes of plastic lids.

The thing is built like a fucking toaster inside with connected wire coils that heat up and it has no thermostat. How does it know what temperature it's at without one. And how are the coils left to get the machine hot enough to burn out the fuse?

She posted earlier on about her dehydrator's fuses giving in while just operating under pretty normal circumstances.
If it doesn't have a thermostat, it simply doesn't know when to turn off, nothing more to it. It'll just keep on heating until the fuse goes out. And yes, that's shitty. If companies weren't allowed to make products that shitty, plastic waste would be reduced by AT LEAST half.

I don't even have one. I just put mine in my oven at the lowest setting, with the door cracked and if the fruits are big, an aquarium pump leading into the cracked door for circulation. They're usually cracker dry after about 14 hours. But I usually don't grow large amounts, so I don't need all that tray space for now anyway.
And my oven has no fuse to blow.

That's why we were equipped with olfactory habituation. No problems there.

The smell of shrooms drying don't bother me none. It has a knob that switches temps. Isn't that a thermostat? Anyways I ordered the proper fuses. Now I just have to open the crimps and the put a new one in. Easy peasy.

That's indeed a thermostat. So basically, it blows hotter than it can really handle. Dial it down a bit and you should be fine

btw, if you mean by crimps, those clamp thingies that hold the fuse, DON'T PRY THEM OPEN! They are meant to hold the fuse tightly, you should be able to take out the old fuse by popping a screwdriver under the metal fuse caps. Prying them open and then closing them again can lead to breaking.

I confess I may be a little too obsessed with mushrooms. I ended up messing my back up even more because I wanted to collect some Tremella foliacea. It was raining like crazy too while I was walking home. I saw a bunch of tramella on a branch on a dead tree hanging over the river. I stretched over the guard rail and pulled the branch in and snapped it off. In the process I felt a pinch. I also almost slid down a hill into the river to collect a nice fat meaty oyster to culture. It may be too far gone though. I'll check on it later. Right now I need a hot bath in some dead sea salt.

I must confess I've been going so hard for the last week on myco work that last night my roommate, seeing me struggle in my fatigue to get more work done, had to say "You know it's ok to take a break and get some rest." Well I slept about 12 hours so break over.

Your a little early. No one really grows button mushrooms because they are dirt cheap and it's just easier to buy them so I won't hold it against you. You just inspired me to stuff some mushrooms. It sucks. A lot of times when people make stuffed mushrooms they weird me out because they are too soggy and just the wrong texture. Yours look nice.
I almost got away with not celebrating Thanksgiving but my friend Laura told on me. Darn her. I wanted to just sit back and do some grain prep on my day off and take care of some stuff before my friend comes in from NY on Friday. Foiled! It will be a small group with a few of my favorite people so I'm not too upset. I told them I'm only going for the turkey. I know she was just trying to be nice. People just have this idea that just because you are alone on Thanksgiving that you must be unhappy and should be with people.
