I wanna play the guessing game.
I doubt it's your water. If you really think so buy distilled water

tryp,
If it's your water, can't you buy jugs of water to test this theory? And either way, your patch of green shouldn't EVER get that big JESUS.

I've never had green before the second flush unless using unknown inoculate. I did a small agar test with mcdonalds water vs my tap and the test size was too small and I'm bad a labeling so the results are still in the air. these wheat jars aren't too bad looking, I may just suck dick at preping grain spawn

I confess mycology is making me a bit depressed lately. I soaked some oyster blocks and they were forming little pins. I was hoping to get one more flush before I pasteurized them for this blewit culture I'm working on. They got trich. Also I found a fungal gnat on one of the blocks which must have come in from bringing home strange fungi to identify. I put them outside in the cold to stall the growth until I decide whether or not I want to sterilize it for my blewits. I found a really nice one today after searching for almost 4 hours. It looked like someone must have came in the morning and picked most of them clean. It was probaly the fucking squirrels. Those little bastards. It will be awhile before the culture is ready so I'm just thinking of just pasteurizing the reish block I have left instead. But mycology is fucking hard when you have limited resources. It's a never ending battle against nature trying to come in and fuck your shit up. I'm probably just whiny and overtired and sore from hiking but I almost want to give up.
I'm really trying to look on the bright side that after the cleanup and switch to dishsoap water with a few drops of bleach just to keep bacteria from growing in the water I only have one contaminated agar and 1 out of 9 contaminated grain jars. I mean progress is progress and that's pretty good and I shouldn't be this pissy. I see a little growth in the multispore jars and the oyster and lions mane jars seem to be doing great. But it really is stressful. I really do think I overdid it today and the damn oyster blocks are just pushing me over the edge. I think I just need some celebrex and an ativan and try to get my cranky ass to fall asleep.
Oh and I almost forgot. I decided to keep the PESA jar for a few more extra days. It looks great! Going to spawn it to a shoebox tomorrow. But it's pretty lame. I out of 20 some odd jars.

Here is a quick overview of what the different grain prep methods have to offer when it comes to grain quality and % of hydration. And really soon I will put these methods to test to see which the myc likes the best when it comes to colonizing and fruiting from. Perhaps this week or next week, so be on the lookout for this soon!

The only problem I see with that is that your culture would prefer rye while mine preferred oats.
Most likely it's your grain prep. although lifting a lid for a mason jar and a petri/miniround lid is different so can't rule out sterile technique. Perhaps you picked up a bad habit along the way without realizing it.

He says that was just a joke on a lot of his podcasts and he doesn't believe that. I think he is a great mind, and a very smart guy.
