They are fine for what we do. They say this because they will not seal to preserve food for actual canning.

Thanks MH this was the reassurance I was looking for lol in the reviews someone asked if it could be pressure cooked and they said no. But they are brand name so I figured it had to be what everyone else is using

I use the cheap ones Wal-Mart sells. I think they are made by mainstay or some shit like that. The only time I melted some is when PC just started to run dry. Other than that I have a couple that warped slightly and fit snug on the threads but I have no problems from them, and they may have been in the PC when it started to run dry.

Ah really, I saw those when getting jars last week but figured they wouldn’t work. Might grab a pack this weekend, need to get more micropore and tubs. Walmart has it all lol

Yup those are all my cheap ass uses, that and my Wal-Mart rarely has the ball plastic lids. Hell when I buy out 4-5 packs of the cheap ones it is 2-4 weeks before they get more. It was close to a month for them to restock wide mouth half pints this summer.

Yup that’s how I planned on making my lids too! Just waiting on the sfd’s to get in. They were 2 packs for $9 so I got 4. Covers about half my jars, eventually I’ll make a full switch. I hate the rust and how the metal bands get banged up and harder to thread off and on over time

There is one brand pasty and tom mentioned that melts rather easily only ball brand I've had melt was because it fell on the heating element in my dishwasher. I've used the plastic lids for more than 10 years with only one melting and not from a PC cycle. The only type my WalMart carries is the ball brand. You can order online. I think what is available varies geographically.
Good lids make the difference. Its like riding your beat up old car from highschool. Or riding your brand new car. Makes life easier and imho reduces issues you may be having with spawn now.

I definitely agree. I’ve been using LI lately and having a one piece lid will help immensely. Once I get my grain prep solidified I’ll be on the gravy train

Have you made a pour lid for Li? Its even easier! Streamlining processes you repeat often is the key to consistency!
You can pickup sip lids for mason jars at WalMart canning section. I posted some pics in the tc qa thread. My favorite part of liquids is I dont have to shake grain anymore.

I seen those the other day and thought they might be able to be used to pour LI's and LC's... Didn't buy any though

Good looking out.
My walmart mainstays ones seem to warp more often than not and become difficult to unscrew and screw back on in sterile conditions. All my ball brands are as good as when I got them.
I'd go with ball.
Targe has them. you can ship to store or your house for very cheap.
