Confession:

Been into mushrooms pretty much since I been on this Earth. Done some small hobby grows but only occasionally and it's been a few years. I have been setting things up to give cultivating another more serious go this time around. I made a glove box and SGFC and a few other things. I had some rye berries on hand from a few years back so I thought I would make up some jars. It really was just practice because I have some obligations going on that have me away from home.

But then my buddy called and asked me to come over to check out his ash stump. The thing had reishi, turkey tail, and a couple other fungi fruiting from it! So I took some of the reishi and tt and thought I would make a quick attempt to clone them. Again, my time was short and I chose to use what I had w me. So I set up a mini mobile lab, gloved up and started to play mycologists.

I want to clarify that I know and understand there is much better procedure and technique than I used here. I literally grabbed what I could think of to practice with and hurried over there. In hindsight I should have chosen to use a steril knife or something to cut a piece of interior tissue to work with, but it was a rush job, this was just a practice attempt (if I get more time this fall to go back over there I'm planning on doing up some pasty plates), and my hands on cultivation experience is lacking. I will get it right eventually. I just need to do some more dry runs and I think I will be good to go.

So I picked these fungi and let them sit in 10% bleach for a few moments

While they were soaking I gloved up and started to prepare a brand new unopened needle to attach to a sterilized syringe. My thinking was to peel open the mushrooms to access some interior tissue and then to stick the syringe into the interior of the mushroom to obtain tiny amounts of fungi for inoculation. Luckily I chose to prepare my syringe during the bleach bath and after I gloved up.

My technique was sloppy and as I attempted to remove the sheathing of the brand new needle I accidentally stuck myself in the index finger. It wasn't too deep and I pulled it imeadiatly back out of my finger and plunged some fresh H2o, wiped with roughly 80% alcohol, flame sterilized, and plunged more H2o. The problem was my index finger was bleeding massively! I carefully put my H2o syringe down and replaced my punctured glove w a fresh one. I am aware that time matters so I continued my project but had blood running down my arm and dripping all over the floor. When a nurse who pricks you says to leave the cotton on your puncture site for 15 minutes they aren't kidding.

I didn't even wind up working in the glove box because of all the blood and because my injury had me on edge. I should have just stopped, cleaned up my funger, and proceeded with a scalpel. Total noob mistake. I ended up injecting the tissues I extracted along with the preloaded sterile H2o into my pre made grain jars. At this point the jars were already a few weeks old so I half way expected things to contaminate and then after my noob sloppy technique it was pretty much certain. They all ended up turning green.

By the time I had my tissue transfers complete my bleeding had stopped. My finger never got infected. I am SO tankful it was a new needle and that I had gloved up after touching the fungi. I already made myself sick contracting a bacteria earlier this year fucking around with a swampy fungi culture I had colonizing on a riparian forest floor..... I was playing around w it w no gloves on, so stupid of me. I'm learning but I catch on quick so I'm confident w some practice my technique will improve and I will be running my own myc in no time.

I currently do not have any agar but I did run back over there with some HW sawdust/coffee/gyp/verm mix and am attempting to see if I can get things to leap off.

My prepared "leap off" substrate

Myc I found growing directly next to the reishi I'm trying to cultivate

TT taken from the same site as my previous attempt.

Some myc I collected while I was on my ovoid adventure

cool. keep us posted! sometimes those 'rush jobs' can lead to some real ingenious thinking:thumbup:
haha @ sticking yourself with a needle. my first timem injecting pf cakes i did that. thought i would grow myc in my blood.

i confess as a child i used to be terrified of mushrooms. and id be upset if edibles were in foods i wanted.
the first time i willingly ate a mushroom was when i was 19 and had my first cubes. ever since... yummmmmmmm.

Yes they're half gallons. I think I'll make an off gassing tube to stick down the centre.

I have four half gallon jars. I use them to store things. The trich monster is finally creeping in again. Bastard. But I got some healthy shrooms to harvest. Fuck I hate pc'ing all these jars. I can't believe I'm back to using foil for now.

Also I'm super sad cause it's so fucking nice out and I'm stuck in here making jars. Damn early darkness is killing me.

And if it makes you happy. Nope. I've never told anyone. :gethigh:

Watch this video and be happy. God I love this clown.

Oh man. This was the trichiest harvest ever. See what I did there. No regrets for saving it since these guys were pretty dense. But I am never doing that again. I am preparing myself for the worst. After two tubs of trich in a row I'm exhausted.  It was finally time to call it quits once the trich started crawling out of the hole. Harvested all the clean shrooms and dumped that shit. Just got out of the shower. I smell like lavender. I was stupid and smoked before I finished my work. Now I'll probably have to wait till tomorrow to noc up the jars especially since I'm going to use the plates to make lc's for my first time. Ball sacks.

I figured out what the issue was though. I noticed it in both. The sub was too moist. Well I learned a new thing by experience. Hopefully This time I get it right. I feel like you just have to keep doing shit till you get it.

Also I am a huge fan of PESA's density.

I don't really smoke pot, but when I do, I get in the zone. I think it would help me with lab work. It might make me take my time and do things more deliberately.
