I had a buddy back in San Francisco - a Deadhead. We worked together on a morning shift and when it would rain at night in fall he would come to work soooo excited and make this happy little humming sound and ask "do you know what that is?" And he'd answer himself saying it was the magic mushrooms singing in golden gate park... then after work we'd go hunting together
Miss ol Dan.

I confess, mycology has given me my life back. I have had 2 strokes and had pretty much given up on life until I rediscovered my love of the mushroom. I now spend my good days hunting for mushrooms of all types.

Psilocybe species have made the biggest difference. I was scared to trip again after my last stroke (it's the one that took my right side), but I'm so glad I did. Psilocybe Cubensis has helped me come to terms with my situation way more than any physical therapy or counseling has ever done.

I feel alive again, excited about life, not just existing. I went through about 15 years of just hating life, praying for death. Mushrooms have removed all the negative energy and given me back the will to live.

When you get really sick or severely injured, you find out who are your real friends, like with divorce or a break up.

Out of all the people who used to come around, I found out I only had one real friend, after the last stroke, he's the only one who still comes around. Funny thing is that he's my old shroomin buddy.

Well, that's my confession of the day. I just wanted to share how much mushrooms have improved my life. I also have to give the people that make up the shroomery some credit. You guys are the best. You all have been a big influence on me for several months now and I appreciate everyone of y'all. Best of luck to everyone.

Those of us in the path of this storm, y'all stay safe, see ya on the flipside.  Hopefully my outdoor beds wont blow away.

Doc,

I'm very sorry to hear about your health issues But so impressed that your outlook is rock solid and you're rolling with the punches. That's inspiring.

Mycology is an amazing hobby and I'm glad you're still enjoying it. It has given me a lot to look forward to, as well. What I find most fascinating is there's never a minute of mycology that can't be spent learning something you didn't know before. It's like a never ending voyage that covers all aspects of life.

Glad you're still active! Keep on truckin', brother!

Thank you, That's exactly how I feel, mycology challenges me and there's always something new to learn, not to mention the medicinal benefits of fungi.

I have used psilocybe cubensis for over 30yrs recreationally, but for the last year I've started using them for their medicinal and spiritual benefits.

I have severe pain due to the last stroke, a few grams of dried cubes every 3-4 days makes it better. I get about 12-24hrs of almost complete pain relief, then it slowly wears off. I've hit a ceiling of what the pain docs will write for me.  The mushrooms seem to help potentiate my pain meds, not in a more of a high sense, but a quality of relief of pain overall. Mushrooms truly have been a god send. No other substance has had such a profound effect on me.

That's incredible! Have you tried some of the more traditional medicinal mushrooms, such as Lion's Mane or Reishi? I've heard of the latter helping all sorts of ailments.

Thank you Doc!
I'm so inspired by your journey and happy that you shared it here in our thread. What makes this a special thread is that people can (and do) share a wide variety of things about their lives that are unique to mushroom cultivation. There are many stories of personal transformation in this thread - partly due to the mindfulness, care, and attention that mushroom cultivation requires us to "cultivate" within ourselves, and partly do to journeys we taken in our minds and souls with their help. Welcome to the community and thank you again for sharing with us - in encourage to share with us again... anything from the most mundane to the deeply spiritual (and ideally always something stemming from mushroom cultivation)

I agree, I plan on only using them to see better, then going back to pasty plates for expansion

You know what sparked me to fight back and  live again?  It may sound stupid, but it was a poster that had this big blue heron trying to eat a frog, the frogs head is in the birds mouth but his arms were reaching out choking the shit out of the bird, at the bottom it had a caption that read "NEVER GIVE UP".

Now I'm not sure if the mushrooms I had eaten earlier made me more susceptible to the posters message or what, but I decided right then I would never give up and let the big bird of life eat me.

I've seen that poster (while sober) and it is funny... I guess it is more serious when you are in an open frame of mind. I'm glad you saw it when you did!

(apparently an artist created a sculpture out of that image:
