Quote:
Petrichor (/ˈpɛtrɪkɔər/) is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. The word is constructed from Greek πέτρα petra, meaning "stone", and ἰχώρ īchōr, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology. The term was coined in 1964 by two Australian CSIRO researchers, Isabel Joy Bear and Richard G. Thomas, for an article in the journal Nature.[1][2] In the article, the authors describe how the smell derives from an oil exuded by certain plants during dry periods, whereupon it is absorbed by clay-based soils and rocks. During rain, the oil is released into the air along with another compound, geosmin, a metabolic by-product of certain actinobacteria, which is emitted by wet soil, producing the distinctive scent; ozone may also be present if there is lightning.[3] In a follow-up paper, Bear and Thomas (1965) showed that the oil retards seed germination and early plant growth.[4] In 2015, MIT scientists used high-speed cameras to record how the scent moves into the air.[5] The tests involved approximately 600 experiments on 28 different surfaces, including engineered materials and soil samples.[6] When a raindrop lands on a porous surface, air from the pores forms small bubbles, which float to the surface and release aerosols.[5] Such aerosols carry the scent, as well as bacteria and viruses from the soil.[5] Raindrops that move at a slower rate tend to produce more aerosols; this serves as an explanation for why the petrichor is more common after light rains.[5] Some scientists believe that humans appreciate the rain scent because ancestors may have relied on rainy weather for survival.[7]

Here is my confession; I have never made a spore syringe. Started agar before I finished my first cake grow, cloned the first flush fruits from it and never looked back.

I was spawning super aggressive clean spawn this morning and the smell of the mycelium combined with the CVG almost made me hurl into my tubs. Gonna have to block my nose next time...

Urrghh, no, hopefully when I get more positive associations with it, but for now the forest dicks will have to not fuck my oversensitive nose...

i confess, i have done a ton of grows with a spore syringe. and get the same results as if i used agar. but i made most of my own syringes unless they came from a trusted source. hell i have about 20 syringes still sitting in the fridge. probably most are plus 5 years old.
i started with agar, moved to spore syringes. then went back to agar later on. to each his own. but i truly like using both methods!
and i get the same contamination ratio with both. but at the same time, im making my own syringes.
one old vendor on this site, which i will not name, never ever had a spore syringe contaminated for 15 plus years of using that vendor. even the syringes i still have never contaminate. but shit done changed and i felt that the company was sold to someone else, who really sucked balls. needless to say, they aren't a vendor here anymore.

I'm weird though dude. I actually like a lot of classic bad smells like skunks and rotting meat. The smells that gross me out the most are those that come from humans. Especially unkempt ones haha.

I confess
Most of my slants deformed in the pc last night.
I'm thinking the ones that didn't warp are the ones with the looser lid.
I must have let my paranoid ass get to me while tightening the lids
Also another lesson to always do a test run before filling up two pc's with equipment your going to need asap.
I could have tried just 4 or even 1 and seen the problem.
Instead I ruined 72 or close to that.

Well I lost 12 qts spawn due to contamination...but 12 out of 76 isn't too bad...one of my master jars had something I missed in it... Tossed them out(dozen jars that contaminated) ...waiting patiently to see how the rest recover from the first shake @30-40%...that is my confession

Thank you.
First time I tried the oats I used Bods tek. They all turned green and ruined a sweet AA+ culture I was growing. I took my time this time. Rinsed multiple times, soaked around 14 hrs, put in boiling water for a minute or two, dried, and PC'd for 2hr at 18psi.

I confess this was my first casing ever and I fucked it up something fierce. Would improper pasteurization mess it up like this? I used straight jiffy mix

I confess I'm not sure what they want from me. It's so scant. There are a bunch of tiny ones just coming in but I feel dissapointment. I guess it is my first bulk mono but still... I want them to be happier.
Do they want more FAE or maybe light? The poly isn't super tight. Maybe it's just genetics and I need to work a little harder.
