I was finally able to make agar, WBS jars, and brf cakes without having to look at the teks. May not seem like much, but feels good and more time efficient.

I won't. Not just yet.
I think temps can definitely give contams a better chance at thriving, but when the grain is sterile, the inoculant is clean, and the inoculation was performed perfectly, there's no contam to grow.
However.
I think it's Aloha who sterilize their grains for upwards of 6 hours, and I think it was even in 2 separate stages, like an hour one day and 6 the next or something. I'm not sure anymore on who it was and what the times were exactly, but it was mentioned on the boards a while back, I think it might have been around the time when TBC was still using pre-sterilized grains. Anyway, there definitely is merit for this, as I have had grain jars sterilized for well over a year, checking up on them every now and then, and only after over a year, one went bad. Then I threw them all out. But my point is, we don't sterilize properly, just sufficiently.
Therefore.
We have to make sure our cultures are fast, strong and clean, and the temperatures are in the right range so the mycelium can grow in a healthy manner. If it can't because of too high temps, then there are always the thermophilic bacteria that survive PC'ing the longest.
BUT.
Did he have bacterial contaminations? Or was it mold?
If so, it was the inoculant, the technique, the lids, or the filters on the lids. OR the air surrounding the SAB. But if that's the case, it's still technique in a way, since it could probably be avoided by spraying the SAB more often in between plates.
But he IS having succes now, so unless he changed something about the air or possible molds in his working/living space, it would have to be something other than that, unless of course it's a seasonal thing, which is also possible.
Bottom line. He fucked up in one way or the other, or both. Still the grower, so Mushboy gets the points imo, but who the fuck cares what I think

That's the idea! Seems like no big thing but for you it's HUGE!

Awesome accomplishment - I recall prepping grains without reference to a Tek and feeling smug and privately proud of it ... like Hell Yeah! I got this!

I guess my secret pride is I've been working in less than ideal conditions and haven't given up. I have one 64qt about to fruit soon. A 27 qt I screwed up by letting the surface conditions get too dry. But instead of tossing it I was like fuck it and dumped that fucker upside down and the pins are all growing upright now. It tells me that once my 64 quart fruits it's going to be awesome as fuck. I have 9 grain jars of PESA colonizing from a PESA culture that took me forever to clean but was worth it cause it's bad as shit and I'm so close to a mono culture. I also have three blue oyster grain jars and three lions mane jars and two ganoderma sessile jars. None of the jars have contaminated so far. I also got some KSSS and TOC on agar getting ready for the next round of jars. I'll have to get more bins soon if this keeps up.
Oh and I almost forgot the impressive collection of spores I've build up in no time or at leas I find impressive from you guys. Thanks for sharing your strains you worked so hard on. You all rock!
Those fucking wood chips though. Better find them in the next week for my lions mane.
I love that I can finally use my kitchen. Plus my new roommates don't speak English that well so they couldn't ask me what I'm doing even if they wanted to.
Also I just made my first agar dessert using coconut milk, mango puree, sugar, kayro syrup and honey. Agar jellies. Mmmmmm. I bet you I could grow somy mycelium on that shit. Maybe I could make petri dish themed desserts for Halloween. That would be so fun. Grow like lions mane cultures on them so they are edible and show my friends how much of a weirdo I am. Actually it probably wouldn't surprise them since they are weird as fuck too. Just different weird.

I confess that I'm having a total noobish rush of joy and wonder at the pins I discovered this morning. I've been working on this block of substrate since May 2016. Today I saw my first pins and I'm predicting I'll get at least 10-12 fruits and that they will be healthy.
Ps. Allenii are beautiful mushrooms and I owe my grow to Keeno who inspired me with this beautiful grow: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16815818
I think with this success I will move on to create a larger container grow (maybe a Sterilite 32 quart clear view container) and try to repeat this success next year.
So even though it is maybe only 10-12 fruits that I may see and it took me 16 months to see pins.. I'm proud of myself for sticking with it. My secret pride... secret no more.

Woah! That's awesome Psilo. Really inspiring me to try this wild print I received from Australia. Not yet of course. Better finish learning the basics. I haven't even grown successful pans yet.

My Secret Pride
This is harder more me than the other ones. It would be against the rules to tell exactly what my secret pride is, but if I had to pick something, it would be... Just knowing that I cultivate. That I have a tub or 2 going. That I got patches of wood lovers all over. Being able to help someone with PTSD, depression, or addiction. When I think about it I walk a little taller with a smile on my face.

I have an old Subaeruginosa print I'd like to get going and try to naturalize it here. I think it would be an excellent candidate. lots of pine trees and similar conditions. I have two secret prides, I'll post them seperately.

first is, after more than three years alone, I have a gorgeous, kind, compassionate, and caring woman by my side who loves mushrooms almost as much as me and has asked me to teach her how to grow them. she dropped spores on agar for the first time a few days ago after failing at (modified) pf tek with another syringe. she is pretty excited about learning about mycology and I love her for it (can we really call home cultivation mycology?)

My Secret mycological pride; after almost 3 years of attempting to get good at growing cubes and get rhyzos on agar I think I have finally narrowed down a problem, it's too early to say but I think my well water has too much Iron and Sulfur in my to keep my myc healthy... I have a set of test plates and control plates made that I plan on expanding my last transfer to in a couple days to see if there's a difference between my well and McDonalds water. keep your fingers crossed for me

I confess my mess of a grow has produced some adorable little purple mystics. I don't regret flipping my substrate and letting all these guy grow out. Not the best pinset but It'll do. It's pretty fun opening them all the time to spray them and look at them. My little mushy children.
